Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926–1938. Everyday Epiphanies. Since the birth of photography in 1839, artists have used the medium to explore subjects close to home—the quotidian, intimate, and overlooked aspects of everyday existence.

Everyday Epiphanies

This exhibition examines the photographs and videos made by a wide range of artists during the last four decades. Italian Renaissance and Baroque Bronze Sculpture from the Robert Lehman Collection. In celebration of the recently published catalogue of Robert Lehman's collection of European sculpture and metalwork, this exhibition presents a selection of Italian bronze sculpture of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, displayed as a group for the first time.

Italian Renaissance and Baroque Bronze Sculpture from the Robert Lehman Collection

Featuring bronze casts after models created by masters such as Severo da Ravenna and Desiderio da Firenze, this selection includes independent figural statuettes as well as functional objects created in key centers of Italian bronze production, in particular Padua and Venice. During the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, bronze statuettes were generally displayed in private studies, where they were accompanied by functional aids to scholarship such as inkwells, writing boxes, and candleholders. The scholars who inhabited these studies often had a profound interest in classical antiquity. The American West in Bronze, 1850–1925. 中文(简体) | deutsch | français | italiano.

That, however, is the sleight of hand the owners of Fonda Nolita are attempting to perpetrate at their new taquería, a Stateside facsimile of a beachside operation that launched five years ago in Playa del Carmen. The Manhattan branch is artfully and somewhat theatrically housed inside a lofty, concrete-floored space outfitted with tropical plants, a flat-screen looping an endless surf video, and dozens of folding tin-top backgammon tables. An open kitchen is camouflaged as a surf shack in the back, and front and center a retrofitted VW bus functions as a taco stand. Dario Wolos, who jettisoned a career in finance for the taco-bus lifestyle, has christened the vehicle—one of a fleet of three—a Tacombi (Taco plus Combi, the VW model), and he himself has gained some social-media notoriety as Señor Tacombi. Mad. Sq. Art 2013: Giuseppe Penone: "Ideas of Stone (Idee di pietra)" - Dec 27, 2013

Sq. Art announces a new sculptural installation for fall 2013 by renowned Italian artist Giuseppe Penone, consisting of three monumental, 30-foot tall bronze trees. Ideas of Stone, featuring Penone’s signature manipulation of the trees’ natural forms, will interact with Madison Square Park’s lush landscape to highlight the relationships amongst man, sculpture and nature. The installation will remain on view daily from September 26, 2013 through February 9, 2014 in Madison Square Park.

Throughout his 40-year career, Penone has employed natural materials and forms in an exploration of the contrasting and fundamental relationships between man and nature. Melt to Earth.
