Our loft was so industrial. tall ceilings, dark colors…i knew we had a big job ahead of us and i didn’t even know where to start. i wanted to do a post about my last 5 living rooms in los angeles (to show the hilarious progression and style shifts) but the past photos are so terrible i don’t know if i can bring myself to do it (who knows, maybe i can be swayed.) so this is the place where i hang out on the couch for hours now. my friend emily and i struck up a trade…she helps me design my living & dining room (because i know what i like, it’s just hard for me to decide where everything goes. and i felt overwhelmed with the task. and she’s also the vintage furniture queen. i knew she could make my place much better than if i did it myself!) Sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder at the creativity and drawing skills. In 2010, I did not pay a lot of attention to Bunker Arquitectura's proposal for Earthscraper, an upside down pyramid in downtown Mexico City. Bunker Arquitectura/via It was not a new idea, and it was not the best iteration of it that I had seen. Earthscraper has become the architectural equivalent of a shot heard ’round the world. She spoke with Jeremy Faludi, who had some issues with the concept: I think it would work much better in a dry area in a northern, colder climate, where solid ground keeps you warm, and the glass top acts as a greenhouse. This is insane! Those were the most common — and in some situations the only — comments we made during our stay at Saffire Freycinet, the luxury resort that just-opened on Tasmania’s East Coast in Australia. Very few resorts manage to get all the ingredients right when opening but we can assure you, this beauty of a hotel has ticked all the right boxes. We were literally left speechless — and that takes some doing — as we feasted our eyes on the breathtaking vistas, indulged our senses in our gorgeous suite and in the spa, and devoured the food that made any thought of a diet ridiculous. A four-hour walk on the pristine beach helped, too. These were the first notes we scribbled just after departing: “Expectations were far exceeded.
