A Design Firm Rethinks The Entire Gym Experience. There are a lot of reasons not to go to the gym. The membership is pricey. It’s far away. You have no idea how to use half the equipment anyway. It’s yet another place you’re going that’s inside. The National Fitness Campaign’s (NFC) court, designed by NewDealDesign, challenges each of these barriers to working out at a gym. How? The design concerns of such a project are numerous. Off-the-shelf solutions wouldn’t work, so NewDealDesign brought on seven personal trainers to help develop and test what’s all-new (or highly modified) equipment.

“The wall was a major enabling factor, allowing us to hang devices, but also give a few steps for people who are weaker or not trained enough to come onboard and enjoy the space,” NewDeal Director Gadi Amit explains. Located in a space covering 2,130 sqm and consisting of two levels, this restaurant is all about the openness and easy going lifestyle of new age Italians. Its vastness is a joy to circulate in, providing a great place to lounge back with great company with its Sunday brunch type atmosphere and really enjoy good food. This is food that you can simply pick up with your hands and savor exquisite simple flavours. AMMO Restaurant by Joyce Wang in Hong Kong. Conceiving the WANG design practice, her career commenced the other way round as one would say. The beginning of Joyce’s career was marked with the successful completion of a 60-room hotel renovation in Los Angeles; an international award from the well known INTERIOR DESIGN Magazine for an office space in Hong Kong and a commission from one of the most respected property developers also from Hong Kong. The majority of designers build a gradual process towards the ID awards with a trail of great projects in their portfolio. This practice however is one of those cases that bear exception to this rule.

The Hong Kong Asia Society commissioned NY based architects Todd Williams & Billie Tsien to create a landmark building as a home for their new headquarters. Conceived from such great influences and then incorporated with great tribute, this leads to a production level that is truly admired. See The Workspaces Of 14 Leading Creative Minds. “With fashion, people often associate it with marketing, and they forget the other side of it, which is the creators,” says Todd Selby, a photographer and writer who’s spent the past three years interviewing fashion designers.

“Fashion is filled with so many passionate people that have a really unique vision and their own take on creativity.” That flood of creativity is the subject of Selby’s third and newest book The Fashionable Selby. As in his previous books The Selby is in Your Place and Edible Selby, Selby scouts out wildly creative minds and photographs them in their work environments. He also has them fill out by hand his own (also hand-written) Q&As, making the books feel like scrapbooks about the creative process. After covering culinary creators in Edible Selby, he decided to pay homage to his connections in the fashion industry. Get a copy of The Fashionable Selby, here. His architecture is always clean and modern, functional and contemporary, and in ‘fashion’ even twenty-years down the road! Designed by Brazilian Architect Isay Weinfeld, the Square Nine Hotel is a contemporary construction integrating both modern and historical elements, as seen in many of the surrounding buildings. When you visit the Square Nine Hotel website, you immediately cannot help but notice two clocks representing two very different time zones - Sao Paulo and Belgrade. With so many spaces no longer in use, creative minds have found inventive ways to revitalize communities, activate the old into the new and thus expand the economic value of new areas for people to enjoy. While we are all too familiar with the proverb, ''One man's trash is another man's treasure'', that is exactly what we are witnessing in the development just adjacent to the Amsterdam waterfront where an old industrial warehouse has been converted into not only a restaurant, but the biggest fish restaurant in Europe. Stork Restaurant is the beacon of a re-purposed site converted into an active campus where start-ups, restaurants, events and cultural activities are springing up around an old industrial complex.
