Vincent Laforet's Blog. Divergent media, inc. - Optimizing your Avid workflow with ClipWrap. November 17, 2011 As many long-time Final Cut Pro users give Avid Media Composer a new look, we've gotten numerous inquiries about the best workflow for going from HDV or AVCHD to Avid.

Because it's a common question, we thought a blog post might help clear things up. Much like Final Cut Pro, Avid is happiest when editing a native, edit-ready format. Instead of ProRes, Avid uses a format called DNxHD. DNxHD supports a variety of bitrates, and delivers high quality with low cpu requirements. For most ClipWrap users, particularly those with AVCHD cameras, transcoding to DNxHD 145 is the best option. Once you've transcoded your footage, you'll need to import it into Avid. Next, when you bring up the import dialog, click the options button to confirm your import settings. If the import dialog doesn't say "fast importing video," something has gone wrong, and Avid is retranscoding your video. Richard Harrington: Creative Cow Leader. Creative COW Forum Host, Web Writer, Podcast Leader, Contributing Editor, Author Richard Harrington has had a long relationship with media.

When he was seven, he was grounded for using magnets to rearrange the picture tube on the family's 13-inch color TV (it works but don't try it). He has since gone on to many more interesting adventures. Rich's love of journalism began at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois. Rich was Editor of his school paper and discovered that being a reporter was more interesting (and entertaining) than anything else he learned at school.

Rich then relocated to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Graduation came and so did a job working for Pulitzer at the number one station in town. Eventually, Rich grew tired of working every holiday, every year (those who've worked in news understand). Fortunately his fiancee felt the same. When not working Rich spends as much time with his wife Meghan as he possibly can find. Articles by Richard Harrington. Studio B Films Berkeley San Francisco (SF) East Bay Area.
