Tackling loneliness in older people - Gracewell Healthcare Blog Isolation and loneliness is an increasing problem in the UK with as many as 800,000 older people described as “chronically lonely” and at least five million say television is their main form of company. At Gracewell Healthcare we couldn’t ignore these shocking statistics so throughout the year different homes will be participating in our Tackling Loneliness campaign where we work with our communities to make resources available to the older people who need it most. By making people aware of what is on offer, ensuring everyone feels welcome to attend and providing support with transport and facilities we believe that we can make a difference to many people’s lives. This week the first of such campaigns was launched at Salisbury Manor care home by the Mayor of Salisbury, Penny Brown, and in partnership with the University of the Third Age (U3A). Mayor Penny Brown, representatives of U3A, staff and residents of Salisbury Manor Mayor Penny Brown said she was delighted to support the campaign.

Our communities: Camberley - Gracewell Healthcare Blog This week in our community blog we take a look at Camberley in Hampshire, home to Randell House. Randell House is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere that you can feel as soon as you walk through the door and over the past year we’ve tried to get as many people from the community involved in home life as possible. Last spring we teamed up with our local Cub Scout group in Farnborough to create some lovely hanging baskets. Residents and the cubs worked together to create some beautiful blooms. Our communities: Weymouth - Gracewell Healthcare Blog In our second look at our local communities we focus on Weymouth, home to Highclere House and all things by the sea. As part of our continued comittment to local causes our Weymouth home has teamed up with a local maritime charity which makes the sea accessible to the disabled. Friends of The MV Freedom was chosen as Highclere House’s official charity of the year and has already benefited from a number of fundraising events at the home on Cross Road. The MV Freedom is a boat especially adapted to take wheelchairs and allows anyone from children to the elderly with physical disabilities or learning difficulties to enjoy a trip out to sea. “We very much look forward to working with Highclere House and welcoming their residents aboard for a trip along the coast!” Friends of The MV Freedom.

Happy first birthday Rossetti House! - Quality Elderly & Dementia Care Solutions When Frome MP David Heath officially opened Rossetti House 12 months ago his thoughts on how we treat older people really stayed with me. “What has struck me is that we still have a real cliché about what elderly people are about,” he said. “We are stuck in a time warp which sets them in the Vera Lynn generation and that isn’t true anymore. “It’s the rock and roll generation that are now the elderly in this country and we ought to recognise that and adapt to the times – and this place really does do that.”

Our communities: Basingstoke - Quality Elderly & Dementia Care Solutions At Gracewell we believe our homes should be at the very heart of their communities.
