The Egg The Egg By: Andy Weir You were on your way home when you died. It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. And that’s when you met me. “What… what happened?” “You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. “There was a… a truck and it was skidding…” “Yup,” I said. “I… I died?” “Yup. You looked around. “More or less,” I said. “Are you god?” “Yup,” I replied. “My kids… my wife,” you said. “What about them?” “Will they be all right?” “That’s what I like to see,” I said. You looked at me with fascination. “Don’t worry,” I said. “Oh,” you said. “Neither,” I said. “Ah,” you said. “All religions are right in their own way,” I said. You followed along as we strode through the void. “Nowhere in particular,” I said. “So what’s the point, then?” “Not so!” I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. “How many times have I been reincarnated, then?” “No.

A List of Books | 623 of the Best Books Ever Written Best 43 Images of Animals We Encountered Around the World I thought it would be a fun idea to compile some of the best images of animals we encountered during our trip, so Anne and I came up with this list. Some of them are quite hilarious. I tried to position them in chronological order, except for the first one, which is just a teaser to give you an idea of how amazing some of these encounters were... Image 1: Anne leaning against a tiger at Tiger Kingdom in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Image 2: Anne, posing for a few soles with two indigenous women and a baby lamb in Cusco, Peru. Image 3: Another shot that we had to pay the old woman for... Image 4: Donkeys we ran into while hiking the Inca Trail in Peru. Image 5: Chilling at some ancient Inca ruins in Peru where Lamas graze undisturbed. Image 6: Chilling at our hostel in Copacabana, Bolivia, we ran into a bunch of cute kittens and played with them for a while, while waiting for our bus to La Paz. Image 8 - These penguins are very tiny and cute. Image 12: Bali again.

30 Books I'm Glad I Read Before 30 In various ways, these 30 books convey some of the philosophy of how Angel and I live our lives. I honestly credit a fraction of who I am today to each title. Thus, they have indirectly influenced much of what I write about on this site. A medley of both fiction and nonfiction, these great reads challenged my internal status quo, opening my mind to new ideas and opportunities, and together they gave me a basic framework for living, loving, learning and working successfully. If you haven’t read these books yet, I highly recommend doing so. Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert – Gilbert, a Harvard professor of psychology has studied happiness for decades, and he shares scientific findings that just might change the way you look at the world. What are your favorite books? Photo by: Katie Harris

I Like Your Flaws & Thought Catalog I like how you mispronounce words sometimes, how you fumble and stammer and stutter looking for the right ones to say and the right ways to say them. I appreciate that you find language challenging, because it is, because everything manmade is challenging. Including man, including you. When you sleep on your side, I like to map the constellations between your beauty marks freckles pimples, the minuscule mountains that sprinkle your back. I like the tufts of hair you forgot to shave and the way you smell when you haven’t showered in a while; I like the sleep left in your eyes. I like the way your skin dies in the middle of the night, how you die from embarrassment the next morning; how you writhe in the snake casing you’ve left behind. I enjoy seeing you insecure, vulnerable. The burns, the scars, the black and blues on your face body heart, I want to know their stories. Your flaws single you out, set you apart, make you different from the rest, and thank god.

Five Books That Changed My Life | Remy Carreiro I was incredibly lucky that my Mom owned a beautiful second-hand book store throughout my adolescence, because I constantly got to reap the reward of having amazing literature at my finger tips. Whatever I wanted to read, I was lucky enough to get to read. And as a result of the store taking second-hand books, can you even grasp how many amazing books must I got to read, that I never would have known about otherwise? Every few days, I was switching out. I never kept a book, so she never lost a cent, but I was always reading, always taking in knowledge. The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran The Prophet is a book you do not keep. The book is too powerful to cherish it secretly. The leather-bound, hardcover edition is quite breathtaking in itself, even before you open it. I shalln’t tell you anything about this book, lest I ruin it. Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk When people ask me, this tends to be the book I most recommend most. It was this book that reignited my love of writing. Honestly, I know.

Play it again Sam: Fujitsu recycles old CDs and DVDs into new notebooks Fujitsu has developed a new recycling system to make new front panels for notebook computers from discarded CDs and DVDs (Photo: Paul Ridden/Gizmag.com) Image Gallery (4 images) Although optical drives in consumer notebooks are becoming less common nowadays and we are storing more and more of our digital information on hard drives instead of optical discs, CD/DVD players are still a mainstay of desktop computers and business laptops and new systems often come bundled with discs containing all sorts of never-to-be-used software. With the help of its Laboratories Division, Fujitsu has developed a new recycling system to make new front panels for notebook computers from all the discarded CDs and DVDs collected, sorted and recycled by its five recycling centers across Japan. One of the reasons we've become so dependent on plastic is also its biggest problem. Watch A Bunch Of Dogs Experience Sunlight And Grass For The First Time Ever wonder what an animal whose whole life has been dedicated to pharmaceutical research looks like when and if it is ever let out of a cage? Reports HuffPo: Forty male beagles raised inside a lab in Spain arrived in Los Angeles last week where they will be put up for adoption after being freed from captivity by the Beagle Freedom Project. The rescue mission is the largest yet for the group Animal Rescue Media Education (ARME). A total of 72 dogs were rescued in the effort, 32 of them having already been adopted in Europe, according to NBC Los Angeles.ARME’s Beagle Freedom Project spokesman Gary Smith said the beagles, all between ages 4 and 7, had lived in cages their entire lives.“We’ve been told they lived one per cage in rooms of 10 beagles, but they never had any physical interaction with one another,” Smith told the station. “They’ve been in kennels since they were rescued about a week ago, but aside from that, they’ve spent most of their lives locked up.” (Jezebel via Anna Holmes)
