Who Are All Those People In Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - Spacious Planet
The album art from Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles is one of the most popular album covers in music history. The cover is a collage of more than 60 famous people. Most of the people selected for the collage were requested by The Beatles. For example, George Harrison requested the three Hindu gurus who appear in the collage. Lennon requested Adolf Hitler, Mahatma Gandhi and Jesus Christ. However, Jesus and Hitler were rejected because the record label feared a public backlash. EMI needed the permission of all living persons in the collage, creating a nightmare for their legal department. The following is the complete list of all the people on the cover of Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band: Top Row- from left to rightYukteswar Giri - Hindu guru Aleister Crowley - Magician Mae West - Actress Lenny Bruce - Comedian Karlheinz Stockhausen - German Composer W. Carl Jung - Psychologist Edgar Allan Poe - Writer and Poet Fred Astaire - Actor The Vargas Girl - Fictional Pin-up Girl H.

'Lost world' of new Antarctic species found - Technology & Science British scientists have discovered a "lost world" of new species of yeti crab, starfish, barnacles, sea anemones — and potentially an octopus — on the sea floor near Antarctica. Research teams led by the University of Oxford, University of Southampton and British Antarctic Survey reported their findings Tuesday in the journal PLoS Biology. They used a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to explore the East Scotia Ridge deep beneath the Southern Ocean where hydrothermal vents (including "black smokers" reaching temperatures of up to 382 C) create a unique environment that lacks sunlight but is rich in certain chemicals. "Hydrothermal vents are home to animals found nowhere else on the planet that get their energy not from the sun but from breaking down chemicals such as hydrogen sulphide," said lead researcher Alex Rogers, a professor in zoology at Oxford University in England. Images from the ROV dives include large colonies of a new species of yeti crab clustered around vent chimneys.

SAFE: Spatial Aggregate Fielding Evaluation One of the aspects of baseball that is the hardest to quantify and evaluate is fielding ability. Most events in baseball, such as hitting events, are discrete which makes them easy to tabulate and model probabilistically. The central difficulty with fielding is that we are trying to evaluate players on a continuous playing surface where we must take into account not just whether a successful play was made, but whether a successful play was possible. The much-maligned error statistic is a subjective attempt at discretising this phenomenon: players are assigned an error if the official scorer deems that their unsuccessful play should have been successful.

Reuben Margolin’s Kinetic Wave Sculptures Our Mechanics theme brought to mind San Francisco Bay Area kinetic sculptor Reuben Margolin, one of my all-time favorite artists. He makes mind-blowing, moving art based on tiny observations in nature. His collection of waves has the ability to quiet, soothe, and inspire awe in the viewer. Margolin combines math and simple materials (and insanely neat string and pulley systems) to recreate and amplify subtle effects that often go unnoticed in nature, like a tiny ripple or the movement of a caterpillar. One of my favorite Make: television segments is this fascinating 10-minute profile of Margolin: Goli Mohammadi
