National Trust gets edgy in spoof advert

It’s not known for being edgy. So a new YouTube video claiming to be a "leaked advert" for the charity, during which viewers are shouted at to "GET OUT MORE", asked if they want to "get as high as a kite" and told "we’ve got weed" – would certainly represent a new direction. No wonder the Twitter hashtag at the end of the clip - which appears after someone tries to dive into what turns out to be a frozen pond - is #expecttheunexpected. The charity, founded in 1895 as the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, isn't know for embracing risky marketing strategies.

Pulse Gets More Personal, Lets Users Add Their Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Flickr & Tumblr Feeds

As Pulse co-founder Akshay Kothari told me yesterday, this is Pulse’s first real foray into social feeds. While Pulse already offered some aggregated social feeds from the likes of Reddit, Instagram (top photos), YouTube (top videos), Readability (top reads) and similar sites, this is indeed the company’s first attempt to focus more on authenticated personal feeds and, at first glance, marks a bit of a change for a company that is better known for its stylish presentation of news feeds from news sources across the web.

Are Britain's bands overexposed in a YouTube universe? Live fast, die young was famously the title of a biography of James Dean.

Are Britain's bands overexposed in a YouTube universe?

But as a motto, it could apply to a growing number of young British rock bands whose profile soars in the social media age, only for the intense scrutiny to become too much to bear. When Ellery Roberts, the lead singer of the Mancunian "heavy pop" band Wu Lyf, decided to quit the band last week, it was probably fitting that he announced his departure via YouTube rather than through a more conventional press release or press conference. Formed in 2008, Wu Lyf had strong connections with Mancunian musical aristocracy. YouTube Expands Automatic Captioning To 6 European Languages, Now Supporting 10 Languages Total. Video-sharing site YouTube announced today that it’s expanding the number of languages that will automatically be captioned in videos uploaded to its library.

The new languages supported include German, Italian, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Dutch, so that deaf, hard-of-hearing, and viewers who speak other languages will be able to follow along to those videos. YouTube has been doing this captioning thing for a while: It started automatically adding captions to English-language videos in 2009, but over the past few years it’s been slowly but surely adding increased support for more languages. The Wii U’s GamePad is essentially the console’s secret weapon, so it’s good to see YouTube arrive on Nintendo’s latest hardware with built-in support for its tablet-style controller.

YouTube App Comes To The Wii U, Viewable On GamePad Or TV

The Wii U version of YouTube is available now, following hot on the heels of the long-awaited version for the Wii, and it allows you to both browse and playback videos on your GamePad as well as on the TV. This is a pretty timely addition for the service addition, which also follows the introduction of Amazon’s Instant Video app for the Wii U. There may be more than one family huddled around a TV as Thanksgiving rolls on across the U.S., and everyone agreeing on one thing to watch isn’t likely.

But with at least one family member free to watch YouTube or other content on their GamePad without monopolizing the TV… well, the commercial writes itself. 2.25" Button > Dark at Heart Designs. 2.25" Button > Dark at Heart Designs. 2.25" Button > Dark at Heart Designs. YouTube videos make people money, but songwriters rarely see any of it. There's a certain irony to the fact that in an era when outside songwriters and producers are used more than ever (well, at least since the heyday of writers such as Bacharach/David in 1960s) – they've been decimated when it comes to revenue share.

They have almost disappeared completely when it comes to being credited for their work – online. A little over a decade ago, the income streams for a professional songwriter were pretty straightforward. There were basically three of them: sales of records, radio play and, once in a while, a synch for a movie soundtrack or an ad. The synch deals would be negotiated, with the rate often depending on how famous the artist was (using a U2 track would cost much more than a track from an unknown act), and the songwriter usually signing off on the deal. Sales rates were a set percentage of the price and radio play was paid as a percentage of ad revenue with a minimum per play or, for the BBC, a per-play set rate.
