Diagram showing a possible configuration for a wireless mesh network, connected upstream via a VSAT link (click to enlarge) History Network structures Architecture Wireless mesh architecture is a first step towards providing cost effective and dynamic high-bandwidth networks over a specific coverage area.
Wireless mesh architectures infrastructure is, in effect, a router network minus the cabling between nodes. Wireless mesh networks have a relatively stable topology except for the occasional failure of nodes or addition of new nodes. Management Applications Mesh networks may involve either fixed or mobile devices. Every once in a while I’ll take it out and tinker around with it. When BitTorrent released the BitTorrent Sync Alpha a few weeks back, I decided to see what kind of options I had for using the program with my Raspberry Pi. BitTorrent Sync is awesome. If you don’t know about it, you can read all about it here. In a nutshell, it allows you to sync folders between machines using P2P. If you have a DIY attitude and aren’t afraid of a few terminal commands, then read on to learn about how I did it. First, you’ll need the following: A Raspberry PiUSB Keyboard for setupUSB Mouse for setupSD card (faster, the better)A thumb drive (I like using this for its low profile). Step 1: Setting up Raspbian Fire up your favorite torrent client and download the Raspbian “wheezy” image. I won’t go in to full detail on how to write the images to the SD card. Andy Beckett: The forgotten story of Chile's 'socialist internet' During the early 70s, in the wealthy commuter backwater of West Byfleet in Surrey, a small but rather remarkable experiment took place.
In the potting shed of a house called Firkins, a teenager named Simon Beer, using bits of radios and pieces of pink and green cardboard, built a series of electrical meters for measuring public opinion. His concept - users of his meters would turn a dial to indicate how happy or unhappy they were with any political proposal - was strange and ambitious enough. And it worked. Yet what was even more jolting was his intended market: not Britain, but Chile. Unlike West Byfleet, Chile was in revolutionary ferment.
Stafford Beer attempted, in his words, to "implant" an electronic "nervous system" in Chilean society. When the Allende administration was deposed in a military coup, the 30th anniversary of which falls this Thursday, exactly how far Beer and his British and Chilean collaborators had got in constructing their hi-tech utopia was soon forgotten.
