His latest post on LinkedIN is a follow up to his Atlantic piece on “The Dark Side of Emotional Intelligence,” where he warns it’s risky to develop emotional competence.

It’s a question that every change agent probably grapples with at some point: Is organization change really just a form of manipulation? After all, an individual or small group of people deciding to influence a larger group to change the way they work seems a little bit presumptuous. What gives you the right to determine what everyone else should do and then figure out how to get them to do it? Isn’t that manipulation? At the same time, organizations don’t work without people focused on improving them.
Without someone to influence large numbers of people to change in the same direction, an organization would devolve into chaos. Perhaps there would be some local optimization, but not a cohesive overall strategy. Unable to adapt, an organization without change agents would eventually fizzle away. Manipulation and influence are two sides of the same coin. The difference between influence and manipulation comes down to your personal motivation as a change agent – real and perceived. Mistakes Introverts Make. We are all so very wonderful and yet--I'm sorry, but it must be said--we are not perfect. This blog has focused mostly on staking out turf in our culture for introverts , but now it's time to consider some things related to our introversion that might be interfering with our relationships and accomplishments. Many or most of us have probably made some of these mistakes at one time or another. I certainly have. Sure, some people need more social interaction than others, but we all need some. Yes, we hate the phone, and it's OK to ask that people respect and honor this. OK, if someone obstinately refuses any other form of communication and insists on frequent time-sucking phone calls, then you get some leeway to make your point. As much as we prefer deep conversation, plunging straight into your worldview over the onion dip at a party can be off-putting to others. Ah, the dreaded babble. If you suddenly realize you've careened into a long monologue, take a breath and look around.

At the end of his second year of Harvard graduate school, neuroscientist and bestselling author Richard Davidson did something his colleagues suspected would mark the end of his academic career: He skipped town and went to India and Sri Lanka for three months to “study meditation.” In the ’70s, just as today, people tended to lump meditation into the new-age category, along with things like astrology, crystals, tantra and herbal “remedies.” But contrary to what his skeptics presumed, not only did Davidson return to resume his studies at Harvard, his trip also marked the beginning of Davidson’s most spectacular body of work: neuroscientific research indicating that meditation (and other strictly mental activity) changes the neuroplasticity of the brain.
