EnJOY it.: project 12 of 26 / a pinwheel painting. I have been dying to try a pinwheel painting since I saw this on pinterest ages ago.

enJOY it.: project 12 of 26 / a pinwheel painting.

Then I really got serious over the weekend after seeing a similar project on Oh Joy. I bought a birch 18x24 canvas at Blick and marked the center with a pencil. Then I used painter's tape to create triangles (one at time) so their points all matched up at the center. I bought yellow, red, teal, cobalt blue and white acrylic paint and mixed to create different colors.

The paint dried pretty quickly so I was able to tape off triangles right next to each other by adding a line of tape right on top of the painted edge. I didn't go into it with much of a plan for a color scheme and I am pretty happy with how it turned out. The Art of SMEAR - On Another Wavelength. Category:Portrait paintings of women with cats. A portrait miniature is a miniature portrait painting, usually executed in gouache, watercolour, or enamel.

Portrait miniature

Portrait miniatures developed out of the techniques of the miniatures in illuminated manuscripts, and were popular among 16th-century elites, mainly in England and France, and spread across the rest of Europe from the middle of the 18th-century, remaining highly popular until the development of daguerreotypes and photography in the mid-19th century. They were especially valuable in introducing people to each other over distances; a nobleman proposing the marriage of his daughter might send a courier with her portrait to visit potential suitors. Soldiers and sailors might carry miniatures of their loved ones while traveling, or a wife might keep one of her husband while he was away.

The first miniaturists used watercolour to paint on stretched vellum. Portrait painting. See Portrait for more about the general topic of portraits.

Portrait painting

The official Chinese court portrait painting of Empress Cao (wife of Emperor Renzong) of Song Dynasty Portrait painting is a genre in painting, where the intent is to depict the visual appearance of the subject. The term is usually applied to the depiction of human subjects. In addition to painting, portraits can also be made in other media such as etching, lithography, photography, video and digital media.

The term 'portrait painting' can also describe the actual painted portrait. Historically, portrait paintings have primarily memorialized the rich and powerful. Technique and practice[edit] A well-executed portrait is expected to show the inner essence of the subject (from the artist's point of view) or a flattering representation, not just a literal likeness. In most cases, this results in a serious, closed lip stare, with anything beyond a slight smile being rather rare historically. History[edit] Ancient world[edit]

Portrait. History[edit] Some of the earliest surviving painted portraits of people, who were not kings or emperors, are the funeral portraits that survived in the dry climate of Egypt's Fayum district.

These are almost the only paintings from the classical world that have survived, apart from frescos, though many sculptures survive, and portraits on coins. They were represented during several stages of their lives. The faces of gods were also depicted. To date, no portraits of women have been found. crackling finish

For years whenever I wanted a cool crackled effect on my painted projects I used the very expensive (to me) crackle medium and even bought some paints that were supposed to crack on their own. Because of the cost I did not do anything large and I was sparing in what I did do. Well, thanks to this cheap alternative, I can go a bit crazy and experiment because I found out how to get the crackle effect with Elmer's Glue! It's alot less expensive than any size bottle of crackle medium and just before school it's downright CHEAP.

I've been doing this for awhile but if you go to the Elmer's faq site, you can see the instructions towards the bottom of the page. On their page Elmer's used wood glue. So this tutorial, as requested, will have lots of pictures and step by steps so you can see what to expect. I painted this piece of foam board with flat black acrylic. Faith I want to write about faith about the way the moon rises over cold snow, night after night, faithful even as it fades from fullness, slowly becoming that last and impossible slither of light before the final darkness.

But I have no faith myself I refuse it the smallest entry. Let this then, my small poem, like a new moon, slender and barely open, be the first prayer that opens me to faith. —David Whyte.
