Most of my forty year career has been in public libraries, but I have experience in a special library (The Information Center on Children's Cultures under the leadership of Anne Pellowski during the International Year of the Child) and in a school media center (on Long Island, NY). I'm a long-time member of USBBY-the US section of the International Board on Books for Young People (have served on many committees and am a past president). As a member of ALA I belong to several divisions and round tables. In ALSC, I've served on many process committees and on the Newbery and Batchelder award committees. Since I retired from full time work, I've taught Children's Literature at Salisbury University in Maryland and am currently volunteering as the Family Literacy Coordinator for the Eastern Shore Literacy Council. The Eastern Shore of Virginia (think Misty of Chincoteague) is a rural community consisting of two of the poorest counties in the state of Virginia.
