Recycled Craft: Custom Portable Art Case I have a couple of budding artists in my house, and it seems like we have projects and materials spread all over the house. I consider this a good thing- but I still wanted to contain the supplies a bit, and in a fun way. I made this custom art suitcase out of a thrifted book. It was very inexpensive, and makes a great portable, and customizable art studio! How to Make Zipper Jewelry Tutorials The first zipper tutorial I mentioned was Outi Pyy's statement piece. Then came the lovely zipper flower tutorial by Annie Mistak. There has been a ton of new zipper jewelry tutorials since then. So if you're game to try, check these out.

Make // Milk Jug Votives Since today is Earth Day, I thought I'd dig into our recycle bin and come up with an upcycle project. Most upcycle projects that I see are glass-- wine bottles, jars, even beer bottles. Not too many pretty projects with plastic milk gallon jugs though. I wonder why? ;) I guess they aren't the most exciting in their original form, but with their vellum-like quality, I thought they would be perfect for a votive project.
Build yourself a portable home - a mongolian yurt Yurt/Gher Construction 101 A guide to Building Yurts...or more specifically, how I built mine! Based on Knowledge Gained from "Doing it Myself", and reading about it on-line. I've now built three yurts, for myself and friends, and we go camping in Luxury in these a few times a year. If you like the outdoors, but you hate having to crawl around in pokey little tents then this one's for you! We sleep two of us in luxury in this tent, in a full queen-sized bed! Nalle's House: DIY: Himmeli Christmas Ornament Following the boy's fox party, I had a bunch of paper straws leftover. I guess most people preferred their beverage sans straw. :) While I was putting them away, I thought that they would be perfect for a Himmeli. A Himmeli is a traditional Finnish Christmas decoration usually made from straw (hay). Using my grey/black/white paper straws made for a modern take on this classic decoration. I also decided rather than make a big Himmeli mobile, I would just make some ornaments.
Pendentifs d'artichaut impressionnant d'Allison Patrick Have you seen these amazing lamps?! A designer that has her stuff on Etsy, Allison Patrick of the 3R’s Blog (Reduce, Reuse, Redecorate – 30 projects in 30 weeks) has created some pretty cool pendant shades that are pretty representative of the beautiful shape of the artichoke. But – the shade is made of recycled pages from books and magazines! Allison’s lamps are very cool, they remind me of the decoupage projects my mom would do with us as a kid. Just recently she got featured on Fab.com, and that has pushed her work sky high! Allison’s got a pretty awesome story with her luminaire design business (which is called Zipper 8 Design, by the way) – she graduated with her Masters, and like many people, she found herself with lots of time and no job.
