Art School Exercises Happy New Year, Followers! I hope 2015 brings you positive change, renewal, and happiness. As for me, I will be bringing these things in my life, especially the latter, which I have been too long without. As a way to reduce my time on social media, I’ve decided to put this blog on hold (but don’t worry all the resources will still be here!) and jump into my dreams with both arms. I would like to draw my own manga. If I find resources that will be useful to you guys, I will most certainly post them, but for now, I’ll be on hiatus—to go after my dreams. I know, I know, it sounds cheesy, and ridiculous, and maybe you think I’m just another silly human that’s taking advantage of New Year’s mentality and will quit in three days. Not wishing to limit herself or her subject matter, McNaught has a mixed-media approach which usually manifests in painted-drawings on traditional and sometimes unusual supports, such as celestial maps. Her soft style suggests a delicate relationship between nature and ourselves, making a clear point about man's destruction of nature - which flutters jewel-like in the balance. By subverting traditional representation she hints at darker consequences, yet paradoxically giving animals an elevated status with the neon paint making them look as though they have their own inner light and are literally shining from within. Famous painters who've done this type of work include Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely. You start by creating create an 'optical' grid pattern, then 'color it in'. You Will Need: A pencil and ruler (ideally a long one). What to Do:Step One: Use the ruler to draw a series of vertical lines from the left edge of the paper to the right (or vice versa). Step Two: Draw horizontal lines from the top edge to the bottom edge of the paper. Step Three: Create 'diamonds' by drawing from corner to corner of the 'rectangles' (see example). Step four: Paint in the 'diamonds'.
