CSV Fingerprints CSV is a simple and common format for tabular data that uses commas to separate rows and columns. Nearly every spreadsheet and database program lets users import from and export to CSV. But until recently, these programs varied in how they treated special cases, like when the data itself has a comma in it. It's easy to make a mistake when you try to make a CSV file fit a particular format. To make it easier to spot mistakes, I've made a "CSV Fingerprint" viewer (named after the "Fashion Fingerprints" from The New York Times's "Front Row to Fashion Week" interactive ).
Writing the Dreaded Cover Letter I've written other posts about writing challenges connected to the job search: how writing anxiety can affect the job search and how writing samples add another layer of challenge to the job seeker. But of all the writing-related activities of the job search, the one task most universally hated is the cover letter. It seems to cause anxiety for many otherwise well-qualified job seekers. And there's a reason for that: it's not an easy document to write. You have to find a way to appeal to the employer, summarize your key strengths relevant to the position, convey your personality, express your interest, and differentiate yourself from every other candidate- and all in one page. Oh, that's all?

Electrolux Bio Robot Refrigerator by Yuriy Dmitriev Bio Robot Refrigerator As promised, here are the details on the Electrolux Bio Robot Refrigerator, a concept that has been making quite a splash in the blogosphere! In lay terms, the fridge is a concept where the Bio Robot cools biopolymer gel through luminescence. A non-sticky gel surrounds the food item when shoved into the biopolymer gel, creating separate pods. The design features no doors or drawers, and the food items are individually cooled at their optimal temperature thanks to the robot.
Tabula Upload a PDF, get back tabular CSV data. Poof! As many developers and data reporters know, dealing with data tables in Adobe Acrobat PDF files is a pain in the rear (to put it lightly). Part of the problem is that PDF is not a data format so much as an electronic paper format. Another part: existing extraction tools, such as xpdf/Poppler’s pdftotext, aren’t designed for data tables and aren’t exactly human-friendly. Jeremy B.
12 Video Sites That Are Better Than YouTube There’s little doubt that YouTube is the go-to video site for many people. In fact, it’s one of the most popular websites in the world. But what if YouTube happens to be inaccessible? Or you simply want more options for viewing videos online? What alternatives are there? Search Operators You can use symbols or words in your search to make your search results more precise. Google Search usually ignores punctuation that isn’t part of a search operator. Don’t put spaces between the symbol or word and your search term. A search for site:nytimes.com will work, but site: nytimes.com won’t. Search social media
SCHOPENHAUER'S 38 STRATAGEMS, OR 38 WAYS TO WIN AN ARGUMENT Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), was a brilliant German philosopher. These 38 Stratagems are excerpts from "The Art of Controversy", first translated into English and published in 1896. Carry your opponent's proposition beyond its natural limits; exaggerate it. The more general your opponent's statement becomes, the more objections you can find against it. The more restricted and narrow his or her propositions remain, the easier they are to defend by him or her.
