The RAT, SAMr, Transformative Technology, & Occam's Razor - Digital Literacy Dover Digital technologies are all well and good, but if we're going to use these, can we at least make sure we are actually changing what is possible to achieve? For our students to learn? Probably the single greatest challenge in my role is to encourage ICT use that does not make the mistake of just replacing or substituting pixels for pages. There are two frameworks, SAMR and RAT, I prefer RAT, but for some reason SAMR seems to get a lot more attention, which is crazy in my opinion, it's far too complex to be of any really practical use, and it's often misinterpreted. Replace, Amplify, Transform*—that's it. SAMR is almost impossible to pronounce, in English anyway, and while it's simpler than most, it can be simpler, without, I believe, losing anything that is crucial.

Teachers use the writing assignments to assess student understanding of important concepts, student proficiency in explaining and using those concepts and each student's attitude toward learning mathematics. Writing in mathematics is a win-win for both teacher and student. Although it may be difficult to introduce this practice, it is well worth the effort.

pr0tean: SAMMS Interthinking, Interaction & the Internet Possibly one of the most exciting applications of digital technology in education are the kinds of activities that encourage the unique ‘peer to peer’ interactions between students, and/or the teacher, provided by a shared online space, a forum, a ‘wiki’ to use the term in it’s most fundamental sense: “wi·ki noun a website that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users.

The RAT Model – Instructional Design By Kelly RAT is a framework that can be used by teachers to develop lesson plans in their classroom that allows the iPads, laptops, and other forms of technology that students are given or bring into class with them as learning tools, and not just distractions that occasionally have a useful function. As technology continues to grow and improve, so must we as educators. RAT allows us to evaluate and determine the usefulness of our current lesson plans as they relate to the ISTE standards and can help to motivate us to improve them so that learning is relevant, fun, and exciting for our students! So…What IS RAT? RAT is a framework that is similar to the more well-known framework, SAMR, but a little simpler. SAMR allows teachers to take more baby steps, but RAT simplifies things, and we teachers need more simplification in our lives!
