The Letters and Sounds program was introduced to the children in Reception and they continued to follow it in Year 1. The program moves quickly through all the different phonemes and the children are taught the skills to help them to blend and segment. Many of the children have made great progress, but other children have joined the cohort later, and others have achieved, but at a slower rate. All the children have been assessed on their phonic knowledge at the end of Year 1, so that we can continue the program from where each child is, by working in small groups at different levels.
