Some groups of small, related databases or indexes are grouped together by subject. One important index to biographical information in local histories is the American Biographical Index (ABI). The selection of sources in ABI is quite broad, geographically and by scope. The index is actually a tool to access the same company’s American Biographical Archives, which is a microfiche collection of the indexed biographical sketches. The largest and most comprehensive index to published, book-length family histories is Fremont Rider’s American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI).
