Trump Attorney Refuses To Rule Out Possibility Of Trump Firing Mueller

</a> Trump attorney Jay Sekulow made an appearance this Sunday on ABC's This Week, and refused to rule out the possibility that Trump could fire special counsel Robert Mueller who has been tasked with looking into Russiagate and whether or not the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians to interfere in the presidential election. Republicans allowed Trump to get away with firing Comey with no repercussions, so no one should be surprised if he does the same thing to Mueller down the line if he feels the investigation closing in around him. In an op-ed, the Trump administration’s 'adults in the room' portray America as selfish, isolated, brutish, domineering, and driven by immediate appetites rather than ideals or even longer-term interests.

Everything That’s Wrong With That McMaster Op-Ed

H.R. McMaster and Gary Cohn may not be the most influential people in the Trump White House. But the national-security adviser and the director of the National Economic Council are surely the White House’s most presentable faces. When they sign their names to a statement of Trumpism at its most dangerous, we are warned: The so-called adults in the room are shirking their responsibilities. On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal published an op-ed bearing McMaster’s and Cohn’s names. Ex-campaign staffer: Some Trump aides ‘probably too stupid’ to know collusion with Russia is illegal. Donald Trump's White House Counsel Has One Main Job—And He's Failing At It.

Don McGahn in the lobby of Trump Tower in New York on January 9, 2017 Albin Lohr-Jones/DPA via ZUMA Press Donald McGahn, like all White House counsels who have served before him, has a broad portfolio but one fundamental charge: to keep his boss, the president of the United States, out of trouble.

Donald Trump's White House Counsel Has One Main Job—And He's Failing At It

To say McGahn hasn't fared well in this department is an understatement. President Donald Trump and his administration have been besieged by scandal from the outset. And lawyers who worked in past administrations, Democratic and Republican, have questioned whether McGahn has the judgment or the clout with his client to do the job.

Four months in, despite having yet to confront a crisis not of its own making, the Trump administration faces a growing list of controversies, legal and otherwise. Panic Floods Mike Pence’s System Before Realizing Hand On Knee His Own. Can Trump’s Sex Assault Lawyer Save Him on Russia? When Donald Trump is in real trouble, he turns to Marc Kasowitz.

Can Trump’s Sex Assault Lawyer Save Him on Russia?

When a journalist dared to allege Trump was worth less than the billions he claimed; when women came out of the woodwork to accuse the future president of sexual assault; and when reporters sued for the unsealing of candidate Trump’s divorce records, Kasowitz—the prominent New York attorney with a shock of perfectly-coiffed white hair, a flair for the dramatic, and most important, a 15-year record of aggressive service—answers the call. And so Kasowitz has answered it again, according to reports that the president hired the millionaire litigator to serve as his personal attorney in a Justice Department investigation into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to influence last year’s presidential election.

Several news outlets have pointed out that Trump’s retainer could pose a conflict of interest. Kasowitz did not return requests for comment, but in January, told the Wall Street Journal, “Trump is a great client.” Reince Priebus Sweating Secret Comey Memos, White House Sources Say. President Donald Trump isn’t the only one in the White House who could be caught in a compromising position by James Comey’s secret memos.

The president’s chief of staff is worried he could be soon in the crosshairs, as well. Comey, the former FBI director who was fired earlier this month by Trump, took detailed notes of his interactions with the president and senior Trump administration officials in order to properly document conversations that were on the verge of improper. Three White House officials told The Daily Beast that Chief of Staff Reince Priebus has privately expressed worry about a possible Comey memo specifically involving one of their reported chats, and how it might play in the press and to investigators. All of these documents can be found here. As soon as Donald Trump won the presidency last November, it became clear to every editor, journalist, and indentured Laotian typesetter at The Onion that we would soon be contending with an unorthodox administration. Now, as our employees ceaselessly analyze a vast trove of classified White House documents on ocean barges floating outside the jurisdiction of the Fair Labor Standards Act, we are finding ample evidence that the path being pursued by this president and his cabinet is, as anticipated, startlingly unlike any other in history. In fact, every American should cower in fear at what we have uncovered.

It should be noted that the decisions now being made in Washington are not only placing the future of the planet in peril, but also the future of our nation’s children. All of these documents can be found here. The editorial board of The Onion continues to work around the clock forcing its cramped basement of illegal migrant laborers to sift through page after page of classified White House documents. And as more and more information is pieced together, one stark truth has emerged again and again: Each and every one of President Trump’s closest advisors and confidants is psychologically disturbed in some profound and perverse way. Whereas Bannon appears elusive, solitary, and tight-lipped, White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway is revealed in these documents to be desperately in need of the public spotlight. As the nation rollicks and careens about amid a fantastic political storm, it is more important than ever to know who is steering our course. Trump's Abortion Policy Isn't About Morality – It's Coercion - Rolling Stone.

Amid all the presidential scandals of the past week, it was easy to miss that the Trump administration vastly expanded the anti-abortion policy known as the "global gag rule.

Trump's Abortion Policy Isn't About Morality – It's Coercion - Rolling Stone

" But it's big news, with significant consequences. The global gag rule prohibits any U.S. foreign aid from going to organizations that provide, advocate for or even discuss safe abortion services. Under previous Republican administrations, the rule applied to approximately $600 million in funds for family planning. Under Trump's expansion, the rule puts $8.8 billion for a range of programs addressing health issues like maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, malaria and Ebola in jeopardy. This expanded gag rule is an economic attack aimed at preventing the poorest women in the world from obtaining or even learning about safe abortion services, which will inevitably result in increased mortality from unsafe abortion as well as collateral damage to poor people in need of other life-saving health services.

Man At Point Where Thought Of Reince Priebus Controlling White House Pretty Comforting. DENVER—Growing increasingly unsettled at the president-elect’s choice of advisors and the prospect of life under a Donald Trump administration, local resident Paul Austin told reporters Monday he was at the point where the thought of Reince Priebus controlling the White House was actually fairly comforting. “The way everything else seems to be going with Trump’s transition, it feels like we’re in a place where having someone like Reince Priebus in charge is almost kind of reassuring,” said Austin, who acknowledged that he emphatically disagreed with Priebus on nearly every issue, but at least was not abjectly horrified by the idea of the RNC chairman being placed in charge of key decisions as White House chief of staff.

WASHINGTON—Seeking to allay concerns about how the incoming commander-in-chief’s business ties would affect the way he governs, members of Donald Trump’s White House transition team assured the American public Friday that the president-elect has far too many conflicts of interest to favor any individual one.

“The American people have absolutely nothing to worry about regarding Mr. Trump Unveils Exclusive Double Platinum–Level Press Room For Only Select Few Journalists. NEW YORK—Describing the ornately decorated 3,000-square-foot space as “the height of luxury,” President-elect Donald Trump officially unveiled a new Double Platinum–Level White House press room Thursday, which he said will be made available to only a select few journalists. “Located mere steps from the West Wing, this magnificent, invitation-only press suite will cater to the every need of a hand-selected group of the most esteemed reporters as they cover my presidency,” said Trump, adding that individual Italian oak writing desks, ambient light from overhead chandeliers, and a bank of 12 plush seats providing unimpeded views of the lectern would help make journalists feel comfortable and relaxed while they report on the executive branch. “Not only will the members of this prestigious group enjoy complimentary sparkling wine and valet parking, but they will also receive private access to my administration that no one else in the press corps will be able to enjoy.

The Trump Documents. Cookies are Not Accepted - New York Times. Mike Pence Just Got Shot Down In Flames. He Lied About Comey Firing And Hid His Role In It, Per NYT. Mike Pence decided way back that the better part of valor for his role in the Trump administration was to play good cop to Donald Trump's bad cop and thereby pave the way for his own ascension into the number one spot, either through the resignation or impeachment of Trump or, alternatively, through gaining the GOP nomination in 2020. This is Mike Pence's long game. Pence has largely remained in the shadows, appearing on television only to innocently declaim, "This is the first I've heard of it,” (referencing Flynn’s Turkish connection), an allegation that journalists shot holes in forthwith, since Pence headed up Trump’s transition team and had to have known about Flynn.

Now, per the New York Times, Pence was in on the Comey firing, a fact that Pence blatantly lied about when he was questioned on the Comey dismissal and Pence sought to ratify, as usual, Trump's latest gaffe and attempt to give it some dimension of credibility. I couldn't have said it better myself. Trump doesn’t embody what’s wrong with Washington. Pence does. When history holds its trial to account for the Donald Trump presidency, Trump himself will be acquitted on grounds of madness.

History will look at his behavior, his erratic and childish lying and his flamboyant ignorance of history itself and pronounce the man, like George III, a cuckoo for whom restraint, but not punishment, was necessary. Such will not be the case for Mike Pence, the toady vice president and the personification of much that has gone wrong in Washington. Photo illustration by Slate. Photos by Zach Gibson/Getty Images and Ron Sachs-Pool/Getty Images. While we try to absorb the enormity of Donald Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey—ostensibly because Comey had been too mean to Hillary Clinton; laughable considering the source—one thing is abundantly clear: How we respond to the rationalizations put forth by the Trump administration to justify its daily assaults on the law will determine whether the constitutional order on which we have relied for two centuries will survive.

Whether we truly are teetering on the brink of a constitutional crisis, as some experts now posit, turns on whether the various governmental systems that exist to check authoritarian behavior can distinguish between that which is normal and that which is insane. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow said Sally Yates’ congressional testimony Monday raised new questions about Vice President Mike Pence’s role in the widening Russia scandal. Yates, then acting attorney general, told the Senate Judiciary Committee that she warned the White House counsel twice that Mike Flynn, the national security adviser, appeared to have been compromised by Russia and vulnerable to blackmail. The Trump administration fired Yates on Jan. 30, four days after first alerting the White House about Flynn, who stayed on as national security adviser for another 18 days.
