Today we celebrate UNESCO World Teachers’ Day, which aims to mobilize support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by them. As a former teacher, I feel this is vital. It is something we take into consideration in the Connect To Learn initiative, and I would like to share what we are doing in the Republic of Djibouti. This small country, strategically located in the Horn of Africa, has a population of some 905,500 people. There are about 3,000 teachers in Djibouti, serving all schools at primary and secondary education levels. In March this year, we joined forces with Djibouti Telecom and the country’s Ministry of Education to expand the Connect To Learn initiative to Djibouti with the aim of improving the quality of education at secondary level through the strategic use of ICT.
