Tools of the trade.... I prefer Piecemakers Embroidery needles for pick stitching with perle cotton...I almost always use #8 perle cotton. It is easy enough to thread through the eye of the needle, but thick enough to add a decorative touch to your quilt. I use either masking tape, painters tape or quilters tape to mark my stitching line. I aways tell students to use the thimble they are most comfortable with...I use a leather thimble. Wear the thimble on the middle finger of your dominant hand...with the stretchy part on your knuckle....YIKES!
12th WIP of 2012 - Organizing the Stash. Over the last few days, I have been using all my free time to turn this mess (read more here) of fabric and fabric scraps into a nicely organized one.
I had purchased comic book backing boards a while ago, so figured now was as good time as any to start using them. Ribbon Star Block Tutorial. My 4x5 Modern Quilt Bee blocks really grew on me as I worked on them—I think the ones with the white backgrounds look especially fab.

Last week while I was at the Melbourne Quilt show there was a delivery of these wonderful new fabrics by Judie Rothermel for Marcus Brothers.
The range is named 'The Union Forever' and has a mixture of strong prints in red, blue, purple and brown. I think this little pile might just have to come to my house! Also last week, we received another delivery of these fantastic scissors. Have you tried them yet? They are from Karen Kay Buckley and are designed primarily for appliqué.

Vicky Putler : Well, we both have fine art backgrounds, and we met on a teacher-training course at the Institute of Education – we were both planning to teach art and design. We completed the course and I managed one year of supply teaching before deciding that I never wanted to set foot in a secondary school again! Theo Sykes : I then spent a year or so drawing and doing carpentry. I think I would have enjoyed the teacher training course a bit more if it had been more hands on and less academic. VP : And then about three years ago we had our daughter, Dorothy – which is where we got the name Thorody from.
MAKOWER WINDSOR - 1648 - Small Cream and Red Floral. Gh quilting. Postage Stamp Quilt Block Tutorial – The easy strip-piecing way. Do you love the look of Postage Stamp quilts but aren’t too keen on cutting out thousands of those teeny-tiny squares and sewing them back together again?
This tutorial will show you how to make a Postage Stamp quilt block in a flash – by strip piecing. The block will finish at 8×8″ in your quilt (there are 64 1-inch blocks in each square) and will look like you spent months sewing it together! This is a great way to use up scraps or those extra fat quarters from another project. For a truly scrappy block try to use as many different fabrics as possible – 25-30 different fabrics for an 8×8″ block. You can use less or more, it doesn’t matter. I’m assuming you know the basics of quilting so I won’t go into all of the usual – clean your machine, basic rotary cutter safety, using 1/4″ seams, how to use an iron, yadda-yadda-yadda. Travel.
