Abbey Watkins ’ intertwined head drawings are inspired by Native American cultural myths. The artist states that she is “confusing the bad spirits by not being able to pinpoint the body to infiltrate the mind. [She] was also inspired by their use of peyote and transcendent spiritual visions.” [1] http://illusion.scene360.com/art/28076/confuse-the-spirit/

Here's a demo sketch I did for my head drawing class, I thought I'd pass along a few pointers to those of you interested. First, simple but accurate construction drawing then massing the light and shadow, this should be as simple as asking yourself what's in direct light and whats in shadow. Then addressing the turning forms within the light and shadow and designing hard and soft edges. This overlay shows how a simple construction drawing lays the foundation. Though it may seem a bit abstract, it helps place the larger masses of anatomy within the whole, it maintains the symmetry of the head and helps convey the simple three dimensional nature of the head (like longitude and latitude on a sphere). Always look for the simple statement as shown in this photoshop paint-over.

While, some of the optical illusions on our list are relatively famous, others are a bit more obscure but all of them give us a glimpse into our amazingly complex minds. http://list25.com/25-incredible-optical-illusions/

T hink you’ve seen enough creative pumpkin carving ideas so far? Get ready to have your mind blown by these incredible pumpkin faces! All of you fans of comic book heroes have probably ran into Ray Villafane’s work before without knowing it. This 42-year-old New York native artist earns his living by making wax prototypes of action figures for big name companies like DC Comics, so it’s no wonder that he’s so handy with carving stuff. What started out as mere Halloween fun got serious when Ray was invited to participate in Outrageous Pumpkins, Food Network’s challenge show, where he won the grand prize with ease. This episode got the highest ratings of all the show’s episodes ever and ensured Ray a worldwide recognition.
