Coaching Reflections - Take 2 (What a great week!)

It doesn't hurt that Monday was a teacher work day, Tuesday there was no school, and today was a minimum day because teachers had "Report Card Night" on Wednesday. It's just been really good. Monday I offered 5 optional workshops for teachers on their work day on different tech stuff that I've been asked about. I figured it would be better for me to teach several at once than go around and teach them all individually. I offered workshops on Discovery Education, Google Forms, Doctopus, Socrative, and Diigo. Let me just summarize the exciting meetings I had with my fellows this week. Fellow #1 - We've been working with Socrative and we planned three days of review using different features of the program: teacher-paced, space race, and student-paced. Fellow #2 - This fellow implemented her first Google Form "Quiz" with Flubaroo this week on Unit Circle radians and terminal points.

I have reserved the computer lab for an entire week each time and let the students show their skills! Is the project overview I give students about a month before we go to the lab. They complete their sketch on graph paper and record their functions with domain constraints. I tell them that once we get to the lab they need all the time they can get to input functions into Desmos and mess with colors. Inevitably they also have to tweak some functions to make it work. They work so hard writing functions of all kinds, not just limited to our Algebra 1 skill base. Here are some awesome student works: Gah...8th graders!!! ComPassion Based Learning. Mrs. Miracle's Music Room: Amazing App {Plickers}

It is such a great medium to share teaching ideas. The other night I was up at 4 a.m. with my daughter Macy when I came across a pin about an app called Plickers; you can read the original post here. After reading the post, I immediately went to the app store to download the app, which you can see by clicking on the picture below. I've been wanting to get student response clickers for several years. If you haven't heard of them, they are like remote controls which students individually hold and enter in answers to questions you ask them. The Plickers app is like student response clickers...but for free.

This is the part that kept me up way after 4 a.m. Yes, it's pretty awesome. After downloading the app in the app store, I went to www.plickers.com. After I entered names for the classes on the website--matching them up with their class number--I printed out the Plicker cards onto cardstock. Learn Lead Grow. LEARN TURN TEACH.
