Obama's Big Tax Lie to the American People

Obama Provokes the American People. RUSH: President Obama today is taking action that a majority of Americans disagree with.

Obama Provokes the American People

He's going down a road a majority of people disagree with. He knows it. The question is, why? Why is Barack Obama literally trying to push people to snap? Why is he doing this? I've been watching the children-as-human-shields show that is now going on at the White House. By the way... I've got a story here about how the Democrats think -- and this is what I mean when I ask, "Why is Obama doing this? " People are asking this, and they are taking action, because the question they're asking perplexes them. The Myth of Americans' Poor Life Expectancy. Text Patterns: Christianity and the Book. Next academic year I will be leading a faculty seminar here at Wheaton on Christianity and the Book: Histories and Futures.

Participating in the seminar will be faculty from English, Education, Chemistry, Ancient Languages, Communications, and the Library. Oh, and our President wants to be there too. We’ll want to start the year by acknowledging that the book is a technology, and that, therefore, we need to think well about technology in general. Here I think Albert Borgmann’s Technology and the Character of Contemporary Life will be especially helpful. We will also want to develop a specifically theological vocabulary, and might be assisted in that endeavor by Murray Jardine’s The Making and Unmaking of Technological Society. Pelosi: Girl Scouts' Relationship With Planned Parenthood ‘Very Valuable’

Rep. Pelosi was featured at the reception with a group of female government leaders to promote the Girl Scout’s new initiative “To Get Her There,” which seeks to create “gender balanced leadership” in one generation. After the event CNSNews.com asked Pelosi: “The Girl Scouts has had some ties to Planned Parenthood, do you think that’s a valuable relationship to have working together?” “The Girl Scouts have relationships with many organizations,” Rep. Pelosi replied. Tolerance Has No Clothes. In 1837 Hans Christian Andersen published a Danish fairy tale called The Emperor’s New Clothes (originally known as Keiserens Nye Klaeder).

Tolerance Has No Clothes

Here’s how the story goes (retold in my words)… A long time ago there lived an emperor who really loved showing off his impeccable taste for great clothing. Think of him as a modern day male fashionista. Two guys approached the emperor one day saying, “Your highness, sir emperor, we notice you appreciate the nicer things of life. We just happen to be purveyors of the finest custom line of men’s clothing.”The two men convince the fashionista emperor to create a new wardrobe from the most rare materials.

The clothiers took his measurements and went to their studio to get started. The day came for the emperors new clothes to be unveiled for all to see. Finally, a small child saw the emperor and exclaimed, “But he has nothing on!” The (Not So) Dark Ages. Over the last few months of my life, I’ve talked to enough people, read enough on the internet, and banged my head against enough walls to know that most people misunderstand the medieval period.

The (Not So) Dark Ages

They usually think it was one of repression, superstition, corruption, and lack of teenage dance culture. In reality, it was a time of flowering learning, deep religious faith, and lively folk customs. And while I can’t do much more here than dispel a few of the most offensive myths, I hope this helps some people to understand the period from 500-1500 (or so) a little better: The medieval period involved an authoritarian Church stifling scientific and academic inquiry.

Let me start by working my way through this passage from C. S. Lewis on the value of reading old books: Text Patterns: advice for writers (2) While I’m being negative about the advice that some writers give: I also think some of the writers consulted are giving universal advice based on the experience of writing one or two books.

Text Patterns: advice for writers (2)

I’ve written not just several books but several kinds of book, and in my judgment they all called for different approaches. In some cases I have sought feedback early, in some cases only late in the game. I've used different tools for collecting and organizing research. A model of research, and the organizing of one’s research, that works perfectly for one project might not work at all for another.
