It’s a type of sculpting process that is so rare, most people have never heard of it. However, when you see it, you won’t believe your eyes. The sculptures he makes are like giant diamonds, and they take up to 24 weeks to create. This type of dedication to one’s craft is truly inspiring! Early memories of studying his father’s craftsmanship as he worked for hours in his own studio with a wooden lathe provided him with the blueprint of his vision, and his intense drive and deeply embedded passion as a glass artist combined with the inspiration that came from the idea of pioneering new trails in the world of fine art motivated him toward this remarkable accomplishment.The intense cold-glass process which can take up to 24 weeks for each contemporary glass sculpture to come to life begins at the heart of the design, by creating a core of lead crystal which is cut, polished and laminated creating reflective mirrors.

He continues to make blank areas of the beach his canvas, as he uses only a rake to create each mesmerizing work. Recently James Yager of PBS shot a short film about the artist called Voyager's Heart. (See below.) It's inspiring to see his passion and love for his work come through. He doesn't paint or sculpt. He prefers a medium that is temporary but absolutely beautiful: a sandy beach at low tide. He uses a rake to create works of art that can be bigger than 100,000 sq. ft. He spends hours creating these intricate masterpieces, knowing that the tide will soon come in and wash away his work forever. For Andres, his art is "more about the process and less about the result. " He knows that it will all be temporary. While making his beach mural explorations, he uses a rope as a guide so that he can make the geometric patterns. When asked WHY he does it, Andre gives the best answer... "The unanswerable question! Consider yourself lucky if you happen to stumble across one of his playa paintings, because it won't be there long.
