Ben's also got a book out which is packed full of awesome. There's an old movie from the 80s on Netflix Instant Queue right now about Tesla: The Secret of Nikola Tesla. It's corny and full of bad acting, but it paints a fairly accurate depiction of his life. The drunk history of Tesla is quite awesome, too. History.com has a great article about Edison and how his douchebaggery had a chokehold on American cinema. Plasma globe.

A plasma globe with filaments extending from the inner sphere to the outer.

Plasma globe

Description[edit] The effect of a conducting object (such as a hand) in close proximity with the plasma globe glass Some globes have a control knob that varies the amount of power going to the center electrode. At the very lowest setting that will light or "strike" the globe, a single tendril is made. This single tendril's plasma channel engages enough space to transmit this lowest striking energy to the outside world through the glass of the globe. Placing a finger tip on the glass creates an attractive spot for the energy to flow, because the conductive human body (having non-ohmic resistance of about 1000 ohms at room temperature) is more easily polarized than the dielectric material around the electrode (i.e. the gas within the globe) providing an alternative discharge path having less resistance.

Much of the movement of the filaments is due to heating of the gas around the filament. History[edit] In U.S. Tesla coil. A Tesla coil is an electrical resonant transformer circuit invented by Nikola Tesla around 1891.[1] It is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high frequency alternating-current electricity.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] Tesla coils can produce higher voltages than electrostatic machines,[citation needed] which are another source of artificial high-voltage discharges.

Tesla coil

Tesla experimented with a number of different configurations consisting of two, or sometimes three, coupled resonant electric circuits. Tesla used these coils to conduct innovative experiments in electrical lighting, phosphorescence, X-ray generation, high frequency alternating current phenomena, electrotherapy, and the transmission of electrical energy without wires.

Tesla coil circuits were used commercially in sparkgap radio transmitters for wireless telegraphy until the 1920s,[1][9][10] and in medical equipment such as electrotherapy and violet ray devices. Theory[edit] History[edit] 1902 design[edit] Tesla's oscillator. Tesla's electro-mechanical oscillator is a steam-powered electric generator patented by Nikola Tesla in 1893.[1][2] Later in life Tesla claimed one version of the oscillator caused an earthquake in New York City in 1898, gaining it the popular culture title "Tesla's earthquake machine".

Tesla's oscillator

Description[edit] Tesla's oscillator is a reciprocating electricity generator. Steam would be forced into the oscillator, and exit through a series of ports, pushing a piston up and down that was attached to an armature, causing it to vibrate up and down at high speed, producing electricity. The casing was by necessity very strong, as temperatures due to pressure heating in the upper chamber exceeded 200 degrees, and the pressure reached 400psi. Some versions used air trapped behind the piston as an "air spring", increasing efficiency. "Earthquake" claims[edit] MythBusters[edit] References and notes[edit] Citations Notes. Tesla Doom Weapons and Aum Shinrikyo - 1

As his target approached, Jo turned towards one of his accomplices who handed him a large kitchen knife concealed inside a briefcase. The threesome pushed themselves to the fore, isolating their target. With an expert strike, Jo slashed the victim’s left wrist - a techniques that opens the victim to a fatal stab. Having rendered his prey defenseless, the assassin lunged for the kill, repeatedly thrusting the knife deep into the abdomen. His assignment completed, the killer patiently stood waiting to be arrested, as his two assistants melted invisibly into the crowd. The victim was Hideo Murai, the science and technology minister of the religious cult Aum Shinrikyo. T E S L A . O R G. Nikola Tesla Page, Tesla Coil plans in magazines.
