Introduction It is intriguing to learn that the Khmer and Thai royal families share the same ancestry. After an extensive search, I was able to obtain some crucial ancestry data and family lineage that have linked the two royal families together. What is more interesting is that both royal families were linked to the feudalistic family of Abhaiwongse, the rulers of Cambodia’s Battambang province and the aristocratic family of Bunnag, the most prominent and powerful family of ancient Thailand. 2.

Both the Khmer and Thai royal families were descended from the Persian (Iranian) (1) andMon ancestry (2). After subjugating a Japanese revolt under Yamada Nagamasa, Sheikh Ahmad became Samuha Nayok (First Prime Minister). One of Ahmad’s descendant was a man called Bunnag (3), who was a Buddhist. 3. The Bunnag family of Thailand was as powerful as the Thioun family of Cambodia. 4. Lord Chhum (6) had more than 40 wives. 5. References (1) Like this: Like Loading... Timeline of Cambodian history. The present dynasty dates from the close of the thirteenth century. Around 1296, Neay Trasac Paem, the Chief of the Royal Gardens, killed his father-in-law King Sihanuraja and ascended the throne. Siam established its independence under a new dynasty in 1351, become a source of woe to Cambodia, ever after. The first of many Siamese invasions began in 1352; Angkor being captured and the King killed. Three Siamese princes ascended the Cambodian throne. By the middle of the eighteenth century, a new power was to emerge in the East. King Sihanouk abdicated in favour of his father in 1955, thereafter concentrating on steering his country between the competing supers who were active in the region.
