Designing Accessible Text—Part 3: Color Designing Accessible Text—Part 3: Color Last updated Oct 17, 2003. If you’re looking for more up-to-date information on this topic, please visit our Web Design article, podcast, and store pages. By Sarah Horton Color is a powerful design tool, and one of the easiest ways to jazz up a Web site. Color adds visual interest, draws the eye, and communicates information to the user. Baseline “Real” baseline grid on the web When I first started to design Baseline, I wanted to base the grid on the work of Josef Müller-Brockmann, unfortunately some missing CSS attributes — like type leading — kept me from implementing a true grid based approach. I then decided to another look at the basic grid used in print: the baseline grid. Most frameworks and examples of baseline grids simply put the type on a regular line-height, but one problem with this approach is that the text rarely lines up correctly between columns and headlines — H1 through H6.

24 Great Niche Galleries CSS galleries can be a great source of inspiration, but if you’re looking for something in particular they can be a bit of a nightmare. They can also be a little repetitive, you’ll often find the same design repeated on many of the galleries. Since niche galleries have a tighter focus it allows them to be more detailed when adding sites to the gallery, and although they don’t update as often the quality usually makes up for it. For Internet Users with Visual Impairments The internet enables users to access material and information on virtually any subject form anywhere there is an internet connection. For many users the internet offers a visual interface that can be used to find their way through the world wide web, but for those with visual impairments the visual cues do not server them as they do for seeing users. Consideration to those with visual impairments is imperative as the number of individuals with visual impairments increases. A visual impairment does not have to stand in the way of someone excelling in the Internet world or at web design schools.
