Braided 'do I know I said I would post this hair tutorial yesterday, but obviously I'm a no good liar because today is not yesterday, it's today. This hairstyle is basically the same thing as milkmaid braids, only modified to up the volume and lessen the big part in the back. Pigtails or regular milkmaid braids make me look like I'm balding, as I have a wicked scar in the back of my head. I would recommend doing this in a mirror and checking the back to make sure it's all neat and tidy as you go, because I did not and it's a little (or a lot) messy in the back. I redid it before heading out and it looked much better, so make sure you use a mirror!

Looks That Land the Job: What to Wear to (Any!) Interview “What the (bleep) am I going to wear today?” This question is never more important than the day of a job interview. Yes, yes, it’s your personality and skills that really matter, but your appearance is often what your interviewer will notice first—and it can go a long way in showing her that you’re ambitious, professional, and most importantly, a great fit for the company. Which means—there’s no one-suit-fits-all approach for what to wear. From your jacket to your shoes to even your accessories, you’ll want to consider the culture of the place you're applying before you pick out your ensemble. Easy & Fun Hair When it comes to doing hair, I am spectacularly incompetent. In fact, during the makeover portion of middle school slumber parties my friends would make me sit alone in a separate room so I couldn’t “mess anything up.” (It sounds cruel but it was actually a wise decision.) As a result I’ve spent much of my adult life alternating between two signature styles: the “sleep on it and hope it looks good in the morning” and the “rushed ponytail.”

The French Braid Updo If you’re tired of always wearing your hair the same way, down or in a ponytail, here is a hair tutorial for a simple braided updo that is very pretty and flattering. This hairstyle only takes a few minutes to do also, so busy moms and working women don’t have to worry about spending all day just to have beautiful hair. It’s a simple twist on the traditional french braid, and with the right hair accessories this pretty braided hairstyle even be dressed up to wear to dressier events. 1. Start with hair loose and down. How to Find Your Perfect Colors Photo by Sir_Fish If you've ever picked up the latest issue of Vogue, and read about this season's "new black", you know that "it colors" come and go in fashion. For example, last spring the hot shade in fashion was yellow, and this winter, the "it" color is purple.

Liquid Eyeliner : Maybe the humidity is messing with our minds, or maybe we need to cut down on those midday margaritas , but we've been having a really hard time drawing our eyeliner on straight these past few days. Time for a shortcut! We thought we'd give you guys a refresher on this genius makeup cheat, just in case you're having the same makeup malfunction. Splatter Nails Tutorial Splatter nails are super cool and easy to do, but they make a huge mess! I didn't tape my nails for this tutorial, and I really regretted it while I was doing the clean up. If you want a tutorial for how to tape off nails check out this one. Aside from the mess, this tutorial is a breeze and I got so many compliments on them. Play around with your color choices and make something beautiful!

Pretty Updo Lindi took these photos of her newly discovered pretty hairstyle, and I immediately said, 'We have to put this on the blog!' So, here's Lindi, explaining how to do this sweet and easy hairstyle yourself. I have been looking for an alternative to the ponytail for a while. When it comes to managing dirty hair on those mornings I don't want to immediately hop into the shower, I still want to look presentable if someone stops by.

Make your OWN eyeshadow primer! I have been using Urban Decay Primer Potion for years. I love the stuff. It is awesome. The problem is when I go to Sephora to get it, I get lost in a sea of sparkling new glosses and shadows and treasures I NEED to try, suddenly eyeshadow primer doesn’t seem very exciting. I start trying to rationalize. Coloured Tips-Hair all photos: Kristin Ess + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess Lots of emails this week asking for a tutorial on Lauren’s temporary bright colors. Here I’ve replicated the process for you in 7 steps on an extension. While I never recommend bleaching out the ends of your hair at home, if you want to do the fun colors yourself, maybe get the tips bleached out by a pro + then play with the temporary colors on your own. The best things about this color– you’re able to hide it in a bun for work if you need to, AND you’re only doing a couple of inches on the bottom so it won’t kill you to cut it off if you get over it quickly.
