Apps That Rise to the Top: Tested and Approved By Teachers With the thousands of educational apps vying for the attention of busy teachers, it can be hard to sift for the gold. Michelle Luhtala, a savvy librarian from New Canaan High School in Connecticut has crowd-sourced the best, most extensive list of apps voted on by educators around the country. “I wanted to make sure we had some flexibility because there’s no one app that’s better than all the others,” Luhtala said. Some apps are best for younger students, others are more complicated, better suited for high school students. Many apps do one thing really well, but aren’t great at everything. Still others are bought, redesigned or just disappear — so it’s always good to know about an array of tools to suit the need at hand.

Surely you do. Perhaps such a person would welcome some instruction on the properties of critical thinking and argumentation? Not likely? 50 Educational Podcasts You Should Check Out - Getting Smart by Guest Author - “50 Educational Podcasts You Should Check Out” by Julie DeNeen first appeared on the informED blog. Anti – Bullying Activities: Pinterest, Poster or a Letter The issue of bullying in schools has exploded over the last ten years or so, and there are many opinions on this topic. Some people believe that the problem is being blown out of proportion, while others believe that more needs to be done to address bullying. Schools are ground zero for bullying and conflicts, which is totally understandable in my opinion.

Other skills must be honed, too, not the least of which is how to get along with their peers and work well with others.

A beginner-friendly tool that students, as well as teachers, can use to create mind or concept maps. The tool is used for generating ideas and thoughts while enhancing visual learning. Students can organize ideas and information into squares called popples. Each popple can be renamed, resized, and moved around the board with different colors. Teaching tips: • Develop students creativity by allowing them to create a popple for a specific concept and add images to support it • Discuss brainstorming ideas and assign students in groups to create a popplet for their ideas • Use popplet to introduce grammar and concepts by jinan84 Oct 26

ahah, apologizes Angela, about this old tool, which i certainly remind one day. Appreciate u use popplet for youngers, great it is .. Coz,in fact this tool has some difficulties to be used for complex diagrams.. it is unusuable when you want a whole view coz of its too bold caracters, and specific parts format. But some used it part by part for presentation as it does a little animation with embedded video/photo..etc. We are not all teachers, but of course, that's in this goal i search for some webtools: - how to explicit easily with a global view ? .. hey, holistic is a way to know better, coz parts are in many realities, important pieces, as it may be for bees today ... ;) by sizolabarchitecture Jun 4

I used popplet with my 9 year old pupils to create mind maps. It was very useful becouse it's very intuitive and very simple. I used it in class with the interactive board. We created maps which summarize the lessons. by sal.angela Jun 3

So? Mainly as a mind mapping tool to vizualise a project? I do agree that as simple as it is, Popplet is great to be used by 'newbie' project managers? A good way to introduce students to brainstorming and knowledge management. by patrock1804 Jun 2

It's great for students to create a visual of a project and share with the class. by susanbainbridge1 Jun 1

I've actually never used it. I thought it was a neat tool for my online classes (I teach), but haven't found the right use for it yet. by talkingtourism Jun 1

That's all right! I found your comment on my pearl "Popplet" but I couldn't understand what you were saying. :-)) by sal.angela May 31

This is another way of conducting group discussion around an image or idea, but it's a little more cumbersome as members have to log in and be invited. The process with Wiffitti is a little more streamlined. by jenbee60 Sep 8
