Leading German Geologist Calls Notion Of “Climate Tipping Points” Scientific Hype By Opportunistic Scientists. The European Institute for Climate and Energy (EIKE) posted a video of prominent German geologist Dr. Stefan Kröpelin, who in a presentation late last year in Munich called the notion of CO2-induced climate tipping points scientifically outlandish. He also called the prospect of the Sahara spreading into Europe preposterous. EIKE recently wrote an article on the presentation and posted the presentation (in German). The article follows in English (headings added): ========================================== Stefan Kröpelin geographer and geologist who, after his training at the Free University of Berlin, has been working at the Institute for Prehistory and Early History in Cologne since 1995.

IT WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT! ~ctm Climate change tipping point could be coming sooner than we think New study shows that vegetation may not be able to continue abating the effects of emissions from human activities Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science Limpopo province in South Africa — a semi-arid region shown to have reduced carbon uptake due to soil moisture anomalies. New York, NY–January 23, 2019–Global carbon emissions reached a record high in 2018, rising by an estimated 3.4 percent in the U.S. alone.

A Columbia Engineering study, published today in Nature, confirms the urgency to tackle climate change. Anthropogenic emissions of CO2–emissions caused by human activities–are increasing the concentration of CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere and producing unnatural changes to the planet’s climate system. From EurekAlert! About the Study The study is titled “Large influence of soil moisture on long-term terrestrial carbon uptake.” Authors are: Julia K. However, the goalposts still have been moved back and we still get 10 more years. Hat-tip: Sebastian Lüning and Fritz Vahrenholt On October 5, 2018, German national weekly Spiegel here presented a noteworthy interview with Germany’s top climate modeler, Jochem Marotzke, director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg. Spiegel wrote in its sub headline: Or in other words, German skeptics Dr. Yes, the climate goalposts just got moved back once again. We can emit “at least twice as much” The ever receding climate goalpost: IPCC and Al Gore “12 years to save the planet” (again) Ah, it’s beginning to sound like a broken record. The same message over and over again. It’s as if these folks don’t pay attention to history. The United Nations has once again issued another dire climate change report (SR15, see it here) claiming we must act before it’s too late. Summary here. In the meantime, the audit of faulty climate data suggests the rush to judgment is unwarranted. The media has dutifully reported this latest round of climate “tipping points.” Former Vice President Al Gore has also joined in, piggybacking on the UN for yet another tipping point warming.

Bear in mind, he once before said we have 10 YEARS, back in 2006 with his “An Inconvenient Truth”: Even NASA’s lead global warming advocate, Dr. Schmidt tweeted on October 7: I agree…that framing this report as ‘we only have 10 years to act’ as done by the Washington Post in their headline is neither correct nor helpful. On Monday the UN IPCC came out with its latest Special Report, this one supposedly addressed specifically to the allegedly dire consequences of allowing world temperatures to increase by more than an arbitrarily-selected threshold.

Here is a copy of the “Summary for Policymakers,” and here is a copy of the accompanying press release. But I urge you not to peek at those until you have taken today’s very important Manhattan Contrarian Climate Tipping Points Quiz. Many have noted that this latest Report seems to step up the level of hysteria and shrieking about the threat of climate change to a whole new level. The gist is, we are doomed, doomed, doomed unless mankind takes immediate drastic action to reduce and then eliminate carbon emissions, because otherwise we will shortly cross the dreaded climate “tipping point.” So it’s time to take the Manhattan Contrarian Climate Tipping Points Quiz. Answers below the fold. Prediction Number 1: Prediction Number 2: Prediction Number 3: MIT: Climate tipping point busted – globe needs to reach 152°F before runaway greenhouse effect kicks in.

Current trend of “global warming” isn’t enough to get there, says MIT scientist. How Earth sheds heat into space New insights into the role of water vapor may help researchers predict how the planet will respond to warming. Just as an oven gives off more heat to the surrounding kitchen as its internal temperature rises, the Earth sheds more heat into space as its surface warms up. Since the 1950s, scientists have observed a surprisingly straightforward, linear relationship between the Earth’s surface temperature and its outgoing heat. But the Earth is an incredibly messy system, with many complicated, interacting parts that can affect this process.

Now scientists from MIT’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) have found the answer, along with a prediction for when this linear relationship will break down. They observed that Earth emits heat to space from the planet’s surface as well as from the atmosphere. UN Photo/Manuel Elias UNITED NATIONS — U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says the world has reached “a pivotal moment” in global warming and risks runaway climate change if leaders don’t act in the next two years. He is telling world leaders at the U.N.

General Assembly that they aren’t doing enough to combat what he calls “a direct existential threat” that is moving faster than people are working to combat it. He notes that thick, permanent sea ice north of Greenland began to break up this year for the first time. He’s calling for making sure the international Paris climate change agreement is implemented. Climate alarmists claim in a newly published study that the world will reach a “point of no return” if there is no dramatic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. “We show that there are strict deadlines for taking climate action,” said Henk Dijkstra, a co-author of the study ( The news media is extensively reporting on the prediction, characterizing the study as ominous, yet the study serves as a refreshing reminder of how all previous predictions of climate deadlines and doomsdays failed to materialize.

In 1989 a United Nations senior environment official said entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth if global warming was not reversed before the year 2000.
