You can quickly combine and subtract shapes by selecting a shape and pressing + or –. Example: Draw a shape layer, then holding ⇧ draw another shape layer. This will create 2 shapes in 1 layer. Now select one of the shapes and press –. This will subtract it. And if you hold ⌥ while drawing another shape it’ll subtract it from the shape.

Open the Property Panel by clicking Window > Properties , then select a vector shape and adjust the feathering number. While tools like the Magic Eraser can sometimes remove your backgrounds, the fact is you’re going to have to get your hands dirty with the eraser if you have images with complex backgrounds that need removing.
