Tinkercad - Mind to design in minutes. 3D Systems Cube - Printers. LAS VEGAS--With an updated Cube 3D printer, announced this morning, 3D Systems has demonstrated its commitment to improving the ease-of-use for consumer 3D printing.

3D Systems Cube - Printers

The new Cube might look familiar if you recall the company's original model , announced at last year's CES . The new version is available in a few new colors now, but it otherwise largely looks the same. The biggest functional change on its exterior comes to the build plate. Whereas before the Cube's build plate was a heated piece of metal, the new build plate is glass, and is unheated. Traditionally, you heat the plate to help secure the plastic during the course of a print. You might also notice a new mechanism holding the build platform in place. 3D Systems says the new design eliminates the need to manually level the build plate, a task that can be tedious, and can also result in bad prints when the plate becomes misaligned. Another welcome update comes on the Cube's software side. 3D Printed Legs: Giving Amputees the Power of Personal Expression. The mission at San Francisco-based Bespoke Innovations is to bring more humanity to people who have experienced the loss of a limb, simply stated on their website as: “Because Every Body is Different.”

3D Printed Legs: Giving Amputees the Power of Personal Expression

Founded in 2009 by an Industrial Designer and an Orthopedic Surgeon, Bespoke is part of the movement towards individualized and innovative medicine. Again, from their website: Each of our bodies is unique, as are our tastes and styles. Humans are anything but one-size-fits-all, and we want to recognize that fact. We achieve this by creating products that allow our clients to personalize their prosthetic legs. Deborah Bespoke shares a case study of a woman named Deborah: In 2004, Deborah lost her lower leg in a motorcycle accident, changing her life from that moment forward. How it Works The video below shows the 3D printing process.

Bespoke has been featured in Bloomberg BusinessWeek and other major publications. Below is video from Mashable discussing the design and customization process. Makerbot announces Replicator 2 "prosumer" 3D printer. Makerbot's fourth generation desktop 3D printer was launched yesterday, and it's very impressive indeed.

Makerbot announces Replicator 2 "prosumer" 3D printer

The Makerbot Replicator 2 continues to raise the bar for at-home 3D printing with increased build volume, new software and significantly finer layer resolution than the company's previous offering. It seems like yesterday the idea of owning an affordable yet competent desktop 3D printer was unimaginable. How quickly things have changed – both in terms of quality and price. The Replicator 2 desktop 3D printer will cost US$2,199 when it becomes available in four to six weeks. You'll need to toss in an additional $50 to buy either ABS or PLA plastic in 1kg spools. So what's different about the Replicator 2? Granted, if the model is incredibly detailed and you want it to be absolutely pristine (with no visible build lines) then the reality is you'll still have to use a 3D printing service bureau. One of the major announcements is the introduction of the new MakerWare software. LAYWOO-D3 allows for 3D printing of (sort of) wooden objects.

Blossom.
