http://inhabitat.com/scientists-develop-wonder-nanomaterial-that-can-produce-energy-clean-water-and-hydrogen/ Researchers in Singapore have developed a new nanomaterial that functions like the best Swiss army knife in the world. The material, known as Multi-use Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) , can produce energy, it can generate hydrogen, and it can even produce clean water. But that’s not all: The remarkable material can also be formed into flexible solar cells and it can double the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries. And with bacteria-killing properties, it can also be used in new antibacterial bandages. <a href="http://ad.doubleclick.net/jump/Inhabitat/energy;article=articlename;kw=content1;sz=300x250;ord=123456789?" target="_blank" ><img src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/Inhabitat/energy;article=articlename;kw=content1;sz=300x250;ord=123456789?"

Your iPhone Is A Reliable Research Lab

A new study says that smartphones are feasible for use in psychological testing. Josef Bless, a PhD candidate in psychology at the University of Bergen in Norway, was listening to music on his phone when he noticed the similarity between what he was doing and the research he conducted in his lab every day. Bless's research group, the Bergen fMRI Group, regularly uses a test called dichotic listening to measure brain function. Each ear hears a different syllable at the same time. The syllable the listener hears the clearest indicates which side of the brain is more active during language processing. So Bless and his fellow researchers developed iDichotic , an app released for the iPhone/iPod in 2011.
You don’t need to watch Breaking Bad to know that chemistry is pretty awesome. Below we explore our favorite 15 chemistry GIFs and the science behind them (when we could figure it out). In the metal slug, eddy currents form due to the magnetic field the copper wire is causing while the copper wire has high frequency AC flowing through it. http://www.pbh2.com/science-nature/awesome-chemistry-gifs/

Snow Leopards Discovered Flourishing in Afghanistan

The Snow Leopard is known for its elusive nature and wildlife groups have been concerned for decades about their dwindling numbers. Yet there is some good news – the species is, it seems, flourishing in one remote part of Afghanistan. The war torn country is home to a vigorous population of snow leopards. The World Conservation Society recently laid a number of camera traps in the Wakhan Corridor. This mountainous area is a long panhandle in the north east of the country and the camera traps captured snow leopards on film in sixteen places.
On Tuesday night, a huge vacant warehouse on Chicago's South Side went up in flames. Fire department officials said it was the biggest blaze the department has had to battle in years and one-third of all Chicago firefighters were on the scene at one point or another trying to put out the flames. Complicating the scene was the weather -- temperatures were well below freezing and the spray from the fire hoses encased everything below in ice, including buildings, vehicles, and some firefighting gear. The warehouse was gutted, but the fire was contained. http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2013/01/chicagos-freezing-fire/100445/

Aokigahara: Japan's Haunted Forest of Death

Located at the base of Mt. Fuji, Aokigahara is perhaps the most infamous forest in all of Japan. Also known as the Sea of Trees, Suicide Forest, and Japan’s Demon Forest, Aokigahara has been home to over 500 confirmed suicides since the 1950s. Called “the perfect place to die,” Aokigahara is the world’s second most popular place for suicide (the Golden Gate Bridge being the first). 10 Creepy Mysteries You Haven't Heard Of

We have had numerous mystery lists in the past, but, due to a recent question I asked on the Listverse fanpage on facebook , I decided to put together a new one. This list covers mysteries that are, hopefully, not well known to most of you (but including one previously published item with updated information), and ones that have something creepy about them.
