How to Use a Wooden Dowel Rod. How to Bend Wooden Dowels. Methods of Bending Wood. Methods of Bending Wood By: Rob Smith After building a few simple projects in your shop, you may have the desire get more creative and build something that requires more advanced techniques in woodworking.

Methods of Bending Wood

One of these advanced techniques is wood bending. There are a few different methods used to bend wood. I will try to give you enough information on most of these wood bending techniques to allow you to get started on your way to more creative furniture. These methods will include Steam Bending, Kerf-cut Bending, Laminated Wood Bending, and for small pieces of wood, Microwave Steaming. Forms and Molds for Bending Wood Before attempting to bend wood you will need to have a mold or form set up. Most forms and molds are easily made from MDF. Another alternative for a form is a theory I have been thinking about. My thought is that a peg board form would work for sweeping curves. Steam Bending Wood Steam bending wood is probably the most widely used and accepted method of wood bending. Finally. Making a Steam Box. Construct a wooden box about 7 feet long by 1 foot wide by 1 foot high.

Making a Steam Box

Along the inside bottom of the box, place a copper pipe that has been riddled with perforations. The pipe should exit the box via a "T" junction near the centre. Where this "T" junction pokes out of the bottom of the box, attach one end of a plastic or rubber flexible hose. Attach the other end of the hose to your steam source (we used a regular electric kettle, but a modified pot or a steam machine, like a wallpaper steamer, would have held more water. If you use a kettle, do not leave it unattended, as it will have to be refilled often). (Note: I have received several suggestions regarding simpler ways to build a steam-chamber. Remember back to the intro of this instructable, and I told you that sketching is a skill that can be learned?

How to make an awesome pencil sketch of any photograph

Well, here is where I will teach you the secrets to sketching. Your first step is to look at your source picture closely, and look at your contour-map looking trace in front of you. Where are they similar? Where are they different? Where are the lightest areas and where are the darkest? With a keen eye for detail, and the following steps, you should be able to make a really great sketch your first time out. So now I present to you my recipe for success at the sketch pad: 1) Take your dry cleaning eraser pad, and lightly and gently "scrub" your whole paper until you can just BARELY see your trace marks. 2) Start sketching by lightly filling in the darkest areas first. 3) Don't try to draw the item in your picture, instead simply try to make dark areas dark and light areas light. 4) Never brush off eraser shavings or dry erase particles with your hand.
