Cupcake Art. Recycled Old Book into a Laptop Case DIY. Do you guys remember the geeky laptop case I made? Well, the picture I had ironed on to it was beginning to fall apart, so I decided to make me a new one... from an old book. I also took pictures while I was making it so that I could do a tutorial for you guys. My laptop is an Aspire Netbook, which means its small and was easy enough to find a book that would fit it. I don't know if you can find a large enough book for a large laptop, but if you make one of these I would love to see your version!! Supplies- Felt & Fabric (I used tan so it would look kinda like book pages) an old book (big enough to fit your laptop in) zipper, and some strong glue.
I think I'm going to add something to the front of the book, like a word or something, but I don't know what yet. -Katie. 25 Beautifully Illustrated Thought-Provoking Questions. Once again I am loving the gorgeous seasonal decor for sale at Pottery Barn, but there is no way I am willing to spend that much money. Even though it is lovely. Really. So, like usual, I brainstormed a few ways to use bargain priced items to replicate their ideas as best I can. I considered making this another Dollar Barn series, but since so much of what I used was from my stash, I can’t be sure that I everything was originally from the dollar store.
If I think you can find the materials I used at the DT (or similar materials), it will be mentioned. The major motifs I “borrowed” from PB are fall leaves, glass containers, and fall fruits and veggies – all pretty standard for autumn decorating. You can’t actually buy these from PB, so I feel a little less guilty commandeering the idea. I already defiled an old dictionary for my Key Storage Makeover project, so I used more pages for these leaves, but any book will do. Trace a leaf (real or fake) with pen or pencil. Voila! I just love the baby hooded towels, but my little one has grown out of them. I have been using regular towels on her, and I miss the hood. I came across this tutorial on how to make large sized hooded towels, but can't seem to find the tutorial anymore. I tried to recall as best I could, and tried to make a couple, here is what I came up with... This hooded towel is so easy to make and I LOVE how big they are! You can make any color you want, and add any color ribbon or fabric strips to the hood! Here is how I made this: First you will need a regular sized towel and a hand towel. Take your hand towel, and cut it around 24 inches long. Fold your hand towel in half lengthwise, and cut your ribbon to the same size as the towel. Now open your towel and sew the ribbon in place. Here is what mine looked like after sewing the ribbon down.
Now fold your hand towel in half widthwise. You will need to sew the two short ends, closed. Now turn your towel right side in. This is the front of the hood. Gorgeous Designer Baby Burp Cloths. I must tell you I don’t really know how to sew. There. I said it. Somehow I’ve tricked all my friends in to thinking I do. The reality of it is, I only attempt to sew things that require no pattern and that are square. They must be square! That makes all of my ‘square’ sewing projects look adorable. It seems I always have a baby shower to go to, so I love keeping a stock of these adorable gifts on hand. Now I don’t care who you are, you can sew a square. Is adorable. Has fabric that is pure eye candy. Patterns are another one of my favorites. . Here are the incredibly easy and basic instructions: -Get your hands on some fabric you love. Is my choice and they have a great sale going on right now.
-For the back I used a basic white Chenille {This can be found at JoAnn’s for a great price. -Cut your square. -Place the front of the chenille and front of the patterned material together and pin {so it looks inside out}. -Sew all the way around all four sides, leaving appx 2 inches un-sewn. Liberty Bibs.
Joelle was in California recently, visiting her adorable new niece Bobbie Rae. She noticed that Bobbie was using a lot of bibs, and that the most effective were super absorbent. When she came back to New York she had the idea that we should design a bib that was both beautiful and totally useful. As you might have noticed by now, when we want to make something truly special and beautiful, we often turn to Liberty of London's Tana Lawn.
The lovely detailed prints of Tana Lawn are legendary! To add absorbency we decided to back the bibs with Michael Miller's 100% Organic Cotton Terry, which is another perennial favorite at Purl Soho. Each Liberty Baby Bib Kit makes 4 bibs (2 of each print). These bibs are a breeze to sew, you could easily make a whole set in one afternoon. Want more radness delivered conveniently to your inbox? Gum Paste Butterfly Tutorial. I've had a number of requests for a tutorial for the butterflies that I covered my mom's birthday cake with. They aren't difficult to make! All you need is the right supplies and you can make your own colourful sugary butterflies to decorate cakes, cupcakes, or even cookies with. The butterflies are made out of gum paste which is a sugar paste that contains a natural gum called Gum tragacanth.
It is soft and mold-able and dries very hard. The butterflies don't have a flavor, the gum paste just tastes crunchy and sweet. You can buy a powder that you have to mix but I always buy the premixed gum paste because it is the perfect consistency and one bag lasts forever in my fridge. Next you need a butterfly shaped cutter. To paint the butterflies you need gel food colouring which you can also find at craft stores and most kitchen stores that have a decorating section.
Luster dust and disco dust look great on the butterflies but if you don't have them/can't find them it's not a big deal. 1. 2. Icings Recipes at Bake Decorate Celebrate! - StumbleUpon. How to Make Marshmallow Fondant. This time I decided to make it with those mini fruit flavored marshmallows. I had to sort them by colour first. I figured they would add a little bit of flavor to the fondant so I wouldn't have to add much flavoring oil.
I use gel colours to dye my fondant but regular food colouring will work too. You won't be able to get really dark colours without making your fondant sticky, but for lighter colours you can just even it out with more icing sugar. I also had lemon oil and coconut flavoring on hand.. oh la la the value brand (which still works fine). Step One: Take a couple of handfuls of marshmallows and put them in a microwave safe bowl. I like to make smaller batches because its easier to add the colour to the melted marshmallow than it is to work the colour into the fondant later. Step Two: Stick the marshmallows in the microwave for ten seconds at a time until the are puffed up and easily stir into a goo with a wooden spoon. Step Three: Step Four: Fondant with the icing sugar kneaded in. Cakes. Chocolate and Cakes, Easy Chocolate Recipes and Great Cake Decorating Ideas.

I know it’s Monday morning and you probably came here for some pretty pictures of food that you could glance at, and then move on with your day… and here I go thrusting warm, soft cinnamon sugar bread in your face. It’s not fair. I know it’s not fair. I know that now you’re craving cinnamon rolls, and cream cheese frosting and chili fries and hot dogs. I am too… and I already ate half of this warm bread. You don’t deserve this sort of torture.
This bread hits all the comfort spots in my soul. I’m sorry and you’re welcome and I love you. Let’s start at the beginning. I did this all without the use of a stand mixer and dough hook. This dough can be made and left to rise , then refrigerated overnight for use in the morning. This is the dough just before it’s left to rise. After the dough has rested and risen for an hour, I knead it in a few tablespoons of flour. This is the part in the bread process where you can wrap the dough and place it in the fridge to rest overnight.
Someone Left The Cake Out In The Rain. Homemade Snickers Bars. Insanity. That’s what this is. Pure In.San.It.TEEEEE. You know those days when you’re in desperate need of sugar and you’ve already downed more gummy vitamins than recommended while seriously considering how many more you can ingest without causing severe harm to your internal organs? They’re just so gooooood. Well… in that case you should make some homemade snickers bars. Because I definitely did that. And I KNOW you know what I’m talking about. I spent the majority of my pre-pubescent and adolescent years scheming just how I would be able to steal my brothers’ Halloween candy. Then I went through a SERIOUS phase of those Snickers ice cream bars. And that you can eat a million of them. These days, it’s rare that I crave actual candy, often preferring some chewy cookies or super rich cheesecake or a bar of amazing chocolate that costs thrice as much as the recent organic meyer lemons I purchased.
They are the peanut butter to my jelly. The salt to my pepper. The broccoli to my… wait, no. Rainbow Cake in a Jar. I’ve always had a penchant for sunshine in a jar. Doesn’t the very phrase itself, “sunshine in a jar,” roll off your tongue and fill your mouth with magic? While I’ve never yet found myself a sunshine in a jar, I think we may have just concocted it in our kitchen tonight. In this simple recipe, a basic white cake is turned into a slew of bright colors, baked to perfection, then topped with a creamy white frosting. Cakes baked in jars can be topped with traditional metal canning lids and stored in the fridge for up to five days. They make a great treat to ship to someone, so long as you can ensure delivery to it’s final destination within 3 days.
