How to Make Books | Pioneer Woman Homeschooling. Photos and Post By Emelie Sanders. When Momma takes us to the bookstore we each get a book; sometimes two–it depends on her mood, really. Usually, I take the longest time. I quickly scan the fiction area, then turn to the small nook of craft books. This recent visit I found How to Make Books: Fold, Cut & Stitch Your Way to a One-of-a-Kind Book by Esther K. Smith. I have already made just about every book except the “Cake Box Book”. I highly recommend reading all the way through before starting. First, we need supplies. » a box of some kind (take into consideration the size) » paper (I used 100% recycled, lined paper I tore from an old notebook) » a ruler (a foot long ruler is long enough, I assure you) » a pen » needle » thread (waxed linen is the best, but I used floss due to a shortage of waxed linen) » an envelope (this is optional, I like using it as a pocket inside) » a hammer » a thin nail » some kind of banging platform (piece of 4×4 or just a piece of wood) » graph paper.

Color Scheme Designer 3. Judith Ann Braun's Fingers Are Magical. With an art career spanning more than three decades, Judith Ann Braun has tested the limits of her artistic musculature. She began as a self-described “realistic figure painter,” and worked through the struggles common to anyone who endeavors upon an artistic pursuit, that of searching for one’s own voice in the chosen medium.

Fast forward to the 21st century where the evolution of Braun’s work has brought us to the Fingerings series, a collection of charcoal dust landscapes and abstracts “painted” using not brushes but her fingertips. Braun has a specific interest in symmetry, as evidenced by the patterns she follows in a number of the Fingerings pieces as well as work in the Symmetrical Procedures collection. Her fingerprints are obvious up close in some of the paintings, though a step back and the grandeur of Braun’s imagination sprawls into a landscape of soft hills, overhanging trees, delicate florals, and a reflective waterway.

Boy, I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I started this. I've had requests for some sort of expressions tutorial dating back a while now, so I figured, "Sure! I can explain expression drawing...and it'll be way better than all those tutorials out there that are nothing but charts of generic expressions. Yeah! Just give me a day or two to whip something up... " Um. Anyway, I found all I could really do was try to explain ways to teach yourself...and then add some pictures.

All you need is an old astronomy magazine (they contain page after page of mind-blowing images that you can cut out)! I made some envelopes (and some geometric wall-art….coming soon)! There are a gazillion envelope templates on the web that you can use (or you could use my string-tied envelope template). You could also make some galaxy gift-tags/ribbon or some 3d galaxy geometric shapes. Do leave a comment if you have any more ideas ^_^ Oh, and the font in the top image is called Later On and it’s free!

The photo-to-wood transfer. This Christmas, I made most of my gifts. The majority of the handmade items were photos transferred onto blocks of wood. It was something memorable to give family (especially for parents, who never seem to need anything!). Everyone seemed to really like them. I first heard about the photo-to-wood transfer from a coworker. She had found it on Pinterest, and wanted to try it out for Christmas gifts this year. I decided to do the same. I followed the directions on this youtube video, and came up with a nice collection of photos on wood.

I thought I’d share some tips I learned during this process. Photo-to-wood transfersmaterials wood gel medium paintbrush photo, printed on copy paper varnish (or Mod Podge)step one: the wood I think any wood works, but just look for something that doesn’t have a lot of markings on it, or this will affect your end image. Step two: the image Two rules of thumb here: use cheap cheap cheap paper (i.e. photocopy paper), and use a laserjet printer.

Ta-da! Finger Knitting How-to. You know how I just wrote about how I like getting a handmade gift more than just about anything. Well, this is anything. Sitting on the couch on a lazy Sunday, knitting with my kids . . . that beats gift-getting for sure. It is a gift itself. We just sat there side-by-side, for about an hour, feeling the warmth from each other’s bodies, listening to music from my computer and basking in each others company as the sun streamed through the windows. Ahhh . . .the experience was so delightful, it was hard to peel myself away to take the photos. The two kiddos are finger-knitting, which I’ve written about before and again, but it continues to be a favorite activity. You end up with a long coil of knitting like this, that curls itself into a sort of tube.

My son is using a finer and less expensive yarn, here. They really do enjoy the process. Some day, I’ll make a coiled rug from the pieces. Materials: Any yarn An eager kiddo Time: However long you want! Now, we’re going to head back again. Paint Tool SAI coloring tut by ~peeps4tea on deviantART. Step by Step Charcoal and Graphite Pencil Drawing Demo :Art Instruction For Beginners - Art Instruction Blog. About Faith Graphite Pencil, Charcoal Pencil and Pastels Artist Hello! My name is Faith Te. When I was 16, a great desire to capture nature and the people around me started my passion for drawing.

I began to look at drawing not just as a hobby but something which I wanted to do all my life. I practiced every day and for many hours since. Initially, charcoal and graphite pencils were the only mediums I used. I devote many hours and lots of attention to detail into each and every one of my drawings or paintings. Thank you for your interest in my artwork. Please take a moment to visit Faith’s Website and Blog to learn more about her and her products and services. There will eventually be an English translation of this tutorial, so please have some patience:) In the meanwhile, I'm sorry to put up this disclaimer: It's OK to link back to this post, but it is not OK to copy all the photos and the tutorial, or translate it to another another language. Posting this as your own creation is even worse. Making whales for yourself or as gifts is ok, selling them or producing them commercially is so not OK.

Art and stuff. Tutorials Stars Tutorial: There's a lot of manual labor in store here (if moving a pen a round in a repetitive motion can be called that) but also a bunch of tips and tricks how to both speed up the process of drawing a sky full of stars and how to make it all look so much fancier. Water Tutorial: Contains three different tutorials consisting of five simple steps each: how to draw flowing water, rain and surface reflections. For using the tutorial it is recommended that you already are at least moderately familiar with the digital art program of your choice, as this tutorial does not provide any specific information on tool or program settings. But all you really need to know is how to use a a regular paint brush with adjustable transparency- and softness-settings, a smudge brush and layers. Most of the tutorials below already have a few years on their backs, and I'm not completely happy with everything presented in them anymore.

If not, I can promise that it is coming to a school near you. It’s an exciting and thought-provoking discussion, but it’s not necessarily new. It’s just new to a lot of educators. Let’s start with a story…. What’s the big deal? A while back, I was working on one of my “money-making Mondays” to try and find some grant funding or foundational funding for a project I’m working on for my school district.

No. And for a while, this is what I thought that the “Flipped Classroom” was referring to. The next big idea Well, it turns out that I did some further research on this flipped classroom concept. Guess what? The arts have been implementing this flipped “integrated” classroom model forever. Now whether or not that French woman will ever understand all of this is yet to be seen. Dawn's Brain – The adventures of a high school web design and graphic design teacher. » Blog Archive » One-point perspective worksheets.

Below are worksheets I created in Adobe Illustrator for teaching one-point perspective. Walk your students through the first two (boxes and room.) Show them the techniques used since the Renaissance to create a realistic illusion of space and form. First introduce them to the terms “horizon line”, “vanishing point” and “orthogonal line”. Horizon Line: The line in a perspective drawing where the sky meets the ground. A couple of technique details, along with further resources: When drawing the back edges of the boxes in the first worksheet, the artist lines the ruler up with a front edge, then slides the ruler toward the vanishing point a little ways, without twisting the ruler in any way.

Once you walk the students through the first two worksheets below, they should be able to do the others on their own with a little guidance. Going through all four worksheets took me two class periods of 50 minutes each. LearningIT - Mac Related ICT, Art & Creativity Info for Teachers & Students. Art Is Messy. Art, Craft & Design.
