An astronaut floats on the wall of a typical Kreuzberg building in the centre of Berlin. You will see him as you walk down Mariannenstrasse or when driving on the U1 subway line from Kotbusser Tor...an impressive figure, faceless and oversized, which cannot be overlooked. There is something lonely and helpless about this Kreutzberg astronaut; attached to nothing, without purpose and without context. He looks like he is about to float off the wall and into space - the eternal unknown that humans have not yet managed to conquer after all. Weightless, here, he is more of a testament to the clumsy futility of human endeavour, than a heroic symbol of progress. He seems to be stretching his arm towards us in a kind of half-hearted gesture for help.
“Stencils” are sprayed pictures in public areas, which are produced by using stencils. The site is exclusively dedicated to Stencil-Graffities, which are in general referred to as Stencils or Pochoirs. Besides presenting these graphics, the site supports the setting up of a Community, which discusses the works on display and features new examples of stencils by uploading photographs. Another goal is to collect comments and statements of the artists.

The power of advertising in the public sphere on our propensity to purchase raspberry-scented shampoo is so effective that hand-bill postering and billboards pop up all over our built environment (and natural environment) like mushrooms overnight. As cities everywhere debate or ignore the appropriate growth of advertising messages, entrepreneurial billboard builders often take the initiative to spread the paid messages in legal grey or red zone because the opportunities for making green are aplenty. Talk about bombing.

How many years have you been painting: En el colegio me llamaban el rallajero, nuncan entendieron mis dibujitos y me ponian insuficiente en dibujo y plástica. Espero empezar a pintar algún día. Do you think there is a Barcelona style? What kind of particularity do you see on it? Has it got any parallels with the culture?
