mon makes things: Storage Ottoman DIY

I love DIY. My biggest DIY crush? Furniture redoing/making. I can't get enough. It takes every fiber of my being to keep myself from "rescuing" every tossed out piece of furniture I see along the side of the road {boyfriend, friends, and family frown upon my frequent adoption of such items}. I am currently in the process of replacing my hand-me-down couch, and wanted a new coffee table or ottoman to replace my cheap and wobbly IKEA table that I broke in college a few years ago. I loved the storage capacity and the fact that it was on casters, but I really needed something boyfriend could put his feet on... Now, prepare yourself... **I got my crates from Michael's using those wonderful 50%-off coupons, so my crates were less than $7 a piece (gotta love coupons!). Build the Structure:Arrange your crates like so: Place one crate on the floor/work surface so that the opening is facing down. At this point, your table will look like this!

Wood Casting by Hilla Shamia

Preservation of the natural form of the tree trunk within the explicit boundaries. The general, squared form intensifies the artificial feeling, and in the same time keeps the memory of the material. Jul 16, 2012 pecas: stool fase #3 ‘stool fase #3′ by pecas chilean industrial design studio pecas has created ‘stool fase #3′ using a new material called demodé. it exploits and rescues wasted textile from factories in santiago, chile before being used by the consumer. the high percentage cotton mix is blended together with a biodegradable adhesive where it maintains high structural strength after being sealed with greenwash. the composite is used to make panels and modules, wall cladding, interior design objects, among others. demodé is available in a wide range of colors that are classified by the color of the waste. it can be manipulated by sawing, drilling, sanding, screwing, gluing, joining with other materials. designboom has received this project from our ‘DIY submissions‘ feature, where we welcome our readers to submit their own work for publication. see more project submissions from our readers here.

Bernardita Marambio. Bits of wood by Pepe Heykoop. There is lots of beauty in materials.

Bits of wood by Pepe Heykoop

We as a consuming species are creating an enormous amount of waste in all types of production processes. ‘Bits of Wood’ is a reaction on handling these leftovers. Pieces of wood in this case; leftovers from the sawmill. All the different pieces are modified to fit in a mold where molten tin embraces them and holds them together. The tin comes from a metal recycling department where old tin pots and plates are collected. Photography by Annemarijne Bax. HomeMade Modern EP14 Log Lounger.
