nanoART 2015 - Nanosciences Purpose of the Contest The contest supports the atmosphere of discovery and wonder that nanoscience and nanotechnology research represent. The first objective of this competition is for participants to have fun. The second objective is to promote the public interest and acceptance of nanos: people new to the subject really begin to understand it when they see compelling pictures. Many of the illustrations, models and nanoscopic images produced in researching nanoscale science are very artistic in nature, transcending basic illustration. For nRai®, OCSiAl® and the Nanosciences Foundation, this contest is important to reward the hard work of non-Faculty researchers.
Contemporist Fieldwork Design & Architecture have collaborated with the Nike Workplace Brand Design group to design some feature walls for the NIKE expansion buildings. The wall is constructed of salvaged maple gym flooring, and creates a branded, meaningful statement of arrival at the office in Beaverton, Oregon. Back in May a couple of friends in Japan started a new project called rrrrrrrroll, using photography to explore beautifully minimalist animations based on objects and people turning on a single axis. Outsider art The term outsider art was coined by art critic Roger Cardinal in 1972 as an English synonym for art brut (French: [aʁ bʁyt], "raw art" or "rough art"), a label created by French artist Jean Dubuffet to describe art created outside the boundaries of official culture; Dubuffet focused particularly on art by those on the outside of the established art scene, such as psychiatric hospital patients and children. While Dubuffet's term is quite specific, the English term "outsider art" is often applied more broadly, to include certain self-taught or naïve art makers who were never institutionalized. Typically, those labeled as outsider artists have little or no contact with the mainstream art world or art institutions. In many cases, their work is discovered only after their deaths. Often, outsider art illustrates extreme mental states, unconventional ideas, or elaborate fantasy worlds.

From the initial sketch to the final offering, they're packed full of colour and beautiful shape that allows the project to really shine. "It's a predominantly personal project, exploring ways in which logos can be formed using only basic shapes and minimalist techniques," explains Watkins.

Dezeen UK designers David Ben Grünberg and Daniel Woolfson have devised a concept for a shape-shifting house that morphs to deal with changing times of day, seasons and weather conditions (+ movie). Woolfson and Grünberg launched The D*Haus Company to develop the concept for the experimental house, which would fold into different configurations so that it can take on up to eight different shapes. The house was first conceived as part of Grünberg's graduation project.
