On the 6th of November 1975, Morocco organized what it called a "Green March" to officially invade the North of Western Sahara moving 350,000 Moroccan settlers to the territory, in complicity with Spain, the colonial power in the territory since 1884. The United Nations Security Council immediately called on Morocco to withdraw from the territory, but the Moroccan King was strongly backed by France and other Western powers. Et pour déterminer le statut de leur pays, les sahraouis doivent donc s’exprimer. La meilleure façon est le vote (à main levée lorsqu’on est peu nombreux, par bulletin lorsqu’il y a du monde … ce qui est le cas ici) … Je précise encore que l’ONU écrit bien autodétermination du peuple sahraoui ! D’ailleurs, dés les premières lignes, le texte parle bien du « Sahara Occidental » … et pas des provinces du sud comme tentent de l’écrire parfois les dirigeants marocains !

Dal 1965 anche l’ONU iniziò a richiedere la decolonizzazione del territorio. Ma negli anni successivi la situazione si aggravò invece di risolversi positivamente. La tensione e gli atti di repressione aumentarono al punto che nello stesso anno migliaia e migliaia di Saharawi scapparono dai propri territori, attraverso il deserto, verso l’Algeria.
