Stop HR 1599: the Ultimate Monsanto Protection Act!

Please join us today! Dear Members of Congress, As your constituent I am writing because I support mandatory labeling of genetically engineered food and I urge you to vote NO on H.R. 1599, new legislation that would undermine states' rights to pass GMO labeling laws and make it illegal for states or counties to regulate untested genetically engineered crops. This is outrageous attempt at corporate protection, putting Monsanto's profits over the rights of American citizens. Public opinion polls regularly show that more than 90% of Americans support GMO labeling and it's time that the U.S. join the rest of the civilized world when it comes to transparency in our food supply. Already, 64 other countries around the world inform their citizens if their food has been genetically engineered in a laboratory with simple labels, and it's time that we share that same basic right. Thank you for your consideration.

Congress passes Monsanto Protection Act, All hands on deck! A copy of your letter of support will be delivered to President Obama, your Member of Congress and Senators: Dear President Obama, I urgently request that you veto HR 933.

Congress passes Monsanto Protection Act, All hands on deck!

I am outraged that the “farmer assurance provision”, Section 735, currently included in HR 933, was not struck from the Continuing Resolution spending bill passed by Congress. Though wrapped in a “farmer-friendly” package, this provision is simply an industry ploy to continue to sell genetically engineered (GMO) seeds even when a court of law has found they were approved by USDA illegally. It is unnecessary and an unprecedented attack on U.S. judicial review. The provision is also completely unnecessary.

Please protect the American people, our Constitution and our farmers and veto HR 933. Sincerely, [Your Name] Le "Monsanto act" met les OGM au-dessus de la loi aux Etats-Unis. Sen. Roy Blunt: Monsanto's Man in Washington. Sen.

Sen. Roy Blunt: Monsanto's Man in Washington

Roy Blunt (R-Mo.)Christian Gooden/St. Louis Post-Dispatch As I reported a couple of weeks ago, a recent Senate bill came with a nice bonus for the genetically modified seed industry: a rider, wholly unrelated to the underlying bill, that compels the USDA to ignore federal court decisions that block the agency's approvals of new GM crops. I explained in this post why such a provision, which the industry has been pushing for over a year, is so important to Monsanto and its few peers in the GMO seed industry.

(You can also hear my talking about it on NPR's The Takeaway, along with the senator who tried to stop it, Montana's Jon Tester, and see me on Al Jazeera's Inside Story.) Which senator pushed the rider into the bill? The admission shines a light on Blunt's ties to Monsanto, whose office is located in the senator's home state. Blunt is also a magnet for PAC money from the agribusiness industry as a whole, OpenSecrets data shows. Stop the Monsanto Protection Act! A copy of your letter of support will be delivered to your Representative: Dear Representative, I am writing to urge you to strike the “farmer assurance provision”, Section 733, currently included in the FY2013 Agriculture Appropriations bill now being included in any omnibus spending bill being considered by Congress.

Though wrapped in a “farmer-friendly” package, this provision is simply an industry ploy to continue to sell genetically engineered (GE) seeds even when a court of law has found they were approved by USDA illegally. It is unnecessary and an unprecedented attack on U.S. judicial review. Congress should not be meddling with the judicial review process based solely on the special interest of a handful of companies. The judicial review process is an essential element of U.S law and serves as a vital check on any Federal Agency decision that may negatively impact human health, the environment or livelihoods. The provision is also completely unnecessary. Sincerely, [Your Name] ETATS-UNIS - Le « Monsanto Protection Act » ne sera pas prolongé.
