Coles-Classroom-Crave-Presets-Exclusive. 30Day.jpg (JPEG Image, 600 × 776 pixels) - Scaled (91%) Super Easy Typographic Portrait in Photoshop. Last year we posted on Abduzeedo a very cool post about typographic portraits, the 45 Amazing Type Faces - Typographic Portraits became one of the most popular posts on Abduzeedo, and a lot of people asked me how to create that effect in Photoshop.

We have also posted a little tutorial showing how to do that using, Flash Photoshop Quick Tips #5 - Typographic Portrait, however I decided to create a nice typographic effect using just Photoshop. So in this tutorial I will show you how to create a really cool and super easy typographic portrait in Photoshop. We will use the Displace filter and some Blend Modes to achieve the effect. The whole process is quite simple but it might take you some time to add the texts and elements, but once you do that the rest is very straight forward. Step 1 Open Photoshop and create a new document.

Step 2 Duplicate the layer and go to Image>Adjustment>Desaturate. Step 3 With the Horizontal Type Tool (T) create text boxes and start adding texts. Step 4 Step 5 Step 6. Watch the Artist Make these Drawings. To create these hyperrealist images, Marcello Barenghi uses diverse materials such as regular and colored pencils, pens, markers, acrylic paint, and more. Untitled. The Wilderness Downtown. Pencil sketches that seem to stand up off the page [12 pictures] Most of these drawings by Ramon Bruin seem relatively simple, but at the same time, because of their shadows and some intriguingly placed real-life props in the photographs, the sketched images appear to be almost magically leaving the bounds of the paper they’re drawn on… (via My Modern Met) Fun with Foam Printing - Easy Tutorial. I loved this idea because not only can you recycle these horrid polystyrene containers, but the process is really simple.

You could even use tracing paper and trace your design so you don't even need to be able to draw. You could make a whole series of cards like this or just a colorful print to hang on your wall and cheer up the place. I remember tears streaming down your face When I said, "I'll never let you go" When all those shadows almost killed your light I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone" But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight Just close your eyes The sun is going down You'll be alright No one can hurt you now Come morning light You and I'll be safe and sound Don't you dare look out your window, darling, Everything's on fire The war outside our door keeps raging on Hold on to this lullaby Even when music's gone Gone Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh La La (La La) La La (La La) Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh La La (La La) Just close your eyes You'll be alright Come morning light, You and I'll be safe and sound...

Alive Without Breath: Three Dimensional Animals Painted in Layers of Resin by Keng Lye.

Singapore-based artist Keng Lye creates near life-like sculptures of animals relying on little but paint, resin and a phenomenal sense of perspective. Lye slowly fills bowls, buckets, and boxes with alternating layers of acrylic paint and resin, creating aquatic animal life that looks so real it could almost pass for a photograph. The artist is using a technique very similar to Japanese painter Riusuke Fukahori who was featured on this blog a little over a year ago, though Lye seems to take things a step further by making his paint creations protrude from the surface, adding another level of dimension to a remarkable medium.

(via ian brooks) Update: I have some additional details from the artist that I’d like to add here, as this post seems to be getting a lot of attention. Yuki Matsueda. ‘While most designers are busying adding more and more elements into their artworks, Japan-based Yuki Matsueda has, however, managed to let some elements escape from his art pieces. The result seems quite amazing… A vivid 3D image is successfully created and all the elements are believed to be more shocking than those stay still on paper.’ Art 1. Optical Design. Drawing Board. Danse Macabre. A grim saraband of skeletons, coming to take you away. Momento mori: remember that you must die. The middle ages preached this lesson with particular intensity. Graphic artists-- Hans Holbein most influentially-- responded to the urgency, to the undeniable power of this topos with scenes in which a dancing, skeletal Reaper came for the archbishop and the servant, the judge and the doctor, the mother and the child.

In the nineteenth century the motif is re-energized by revolution and social upheaval, and heralds the arrival of a social fantastic with Alfred Rethel’s great series, Auch ein Todtentanz. Cornell’s extensive collection includes rare works that have never been reproduced in the literature devoted to the subject. Freund’s Heins Erscheinungen (in Holbein’s Manier) and Merkel and Flegel’s Bilder des Todes join Thomas Rowlandsonís satirical classic English Dance of Death, for especially remarkable depictions of suicide.

I have been playing a lot with the Displace filter in Photoshop and I still get impressed with how powerful it is. Even though I have written some tutorials using it, I decided to try to recreate a different effect that I saw in one of the images submitted for the Daily Inspiration. It was a brick wall deformed like it was made of cloth. So in this tutorial, or a quick-tips I will show you how to create a curtain made of bricks or how to deform a brick wall as it was a curtain.

To do that we wil use a few stock photos, layer adjustments and the Displace filter in Photoshop CS5. The technique is pretty simple and the tutorial won't take you more than 30 minutes to go through it. Step 1 Open Photoshop and create a new document. Step 2 Let's import another image, now of a girl opening the curtains. Step 3 With the Lasso Tool (L) or the Pen Tool (P) select the empty white. Step 5 Now select the hands/arms of the girl and the curtains. Step 6 Step 7 Go to Layer>Layer Mask>Hide Selection. Step 8. Cake postcard tutorial.
