Rep. Steve King says FY13 NDAA contains the language of the Right to Habeas Corpus Act. Congressman Steve King, IA, just now replied to my letter in regard to the indefinite detention clauses in NDAA. He states that the indefinite detention clauses do not apply to American citizens. Bold emphasis is mine. Here is his response: November 19, 2012 Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about H.R. 4130, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 (NDAA). It is good to hear from you. As you may know, the NDAA is annual legislation that authorizes expenditures for the DOD. FY13 NDAA does nothing more than reaffirm the current legal authority to detain al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against those who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks.

If the AUMF were not in place, and a terrorist like al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was captured overseas (say, in Pakistan), he could be detained by the military, interrogated, and dispatched to wherever the Commander in Chief decides. TV’s most Islamophobic show. I started watching “Homeland” because I was bored. All of my favorite shows were coming to a (season’s) end, and I needed something new to watch. I’m drawn to smart scripted dramas, but I was immediately suspicious of the show when I learned that its creators were also the ones behind “24,” the Fox drama that somehow became the chief piece of evidence for the effectiveness of torture and was a favorite of Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh. But I kept an open mind and was riveted by the first episode, which laid out the intriguing mystery: Is Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody the POW who’s been turned against his country by al-Qaida and its leader, the nefarious Abu Nazir? Soon CIA agent Carrie Mathison is seen spying on Brody and family in scenes reminiscent of the Stasi’s voyeurism in the Academy Award-winning film “The Lives of Others.” 1.

The central conceit of the show is that a white, telegenic American hero in the heart of the nation’s capital can really be a Muslim terrorist. 2. 3. 4. Ex-RBS trader details bank's Libor fixing. By Rachel Armstrong SINGAPORE Thu Aug 23, 2012 4:27pm IST SINGAPORE Aug 23 (Reuters) - A former dealer for the Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC has provided fresh details on how traders at the British bank tried to influence Libor rates, court documents filed in Singapore show.

Tan Chi Min, who is suing RBS for wrongful dismissal, alleges that the bank's minutes of his disciplinary meeting held in September last year did not accurately reflect what was discussed and omitted details of conversations about how traders at the bank tried to influence RBS's interbank lending rate submissions. More than a dozen banks are currently under investigation by regulators in the United States, Europe and Asia for suspected rigging of the London interbank offered rate (Libor), which is used to price trillions of dollars worth of financial products.

RBS confirmed earlier this month in its half-year results that it was among those banks being investigated. Michelle Obama's motorcade escorts injured in Ohio crash. Sen. By Arab News By Mohammed Rasooldeen More than 1 million polio vaccines were given to Haj pilgrims from endemic countries, Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah announced here yesterday. Al-Rabeeah was chairing the seventh meeting of the Haj Health Committee at his ministry headquarters yesterday. Chairmen of all related sub-committees were present to exchange notes about the progress of the health plan for the current Haj season. The minister said that polio vaccines were given to pilgrims who arrived at the Haj terminal from countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Nigeria. Saudi Arabia Prior to the Haj season, the Saudi missions abroad requested pilgrims to produce quarantine certificate to issue Haj visas.

Most pilgrims from the African and South American continents were advised to take vaccination against yellow fever, which is endemic to those countries. The minister said the ministry formed several teams to look after the health interests of the pilgrims. Jeffrey Toobin, author of The Oath: The Obama White House and the Supreme Court, interviewed. Similarly, many observers believe that the various Muslim attacks on, and demonstrations in front of, American interests following the release of the Innocence of Muslims trailer were well-orchestrated, with the trailer merely serving as a pretext for incitement. The well-executed, heavily-armed terrorist attack upon the American ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens and his entourage in Benghazi, for example, was most likely an act of revenge by Al-Qaeda affiliates for the American killing of top Al-Qaeda leader Abu Yahya Al-Libi. Islamist groups in Egypt also deliberately played the trailer on Egyptian television in order to provoke riots in front of the Cairo American embassy on the eleventh anniversary of the September 11, 2001 Al-Qaeda attacks upon the United States.

As noted Islam-watcher Robert Spencer of the website Jihadwatch argues, the "video did not provoke the riots. Anti-Islam Film An Exception To Free Speech Protection. By Rob L. Wagner The anti-Muslim film produced by Christian extremists may have sparked the violence that spread across the Middle East and South Asia this week. But the core issues in the following days of protests were unemployment, politicizing religion and the deep resentment against the United States for its wars that cost thousands of innocent lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Protest organizers just got a lucky break when Egyptian television aired and dubbed in Arabic the “Innocence of Muslims” film trailer.

The movie simply got the ball rolling. The debate in America is not whether rage against the US government’s meddling in Arab affairs is justified, but why Muslims get so riled up when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is ridiculed. Muslims in the Middle East get the free speech thing, but often wonder why its advocates take such great pleasure in beating them over the head with it. Yet the extremists who made the film are not clueless, and have much darker goals in mind. Middle East Violence No Excuse For Vile Provocation. By ISN Security Watch By Ernest Corea Eleven years after the murderous events that made “nine-eleven” an universally recognized description of a date of tragedy, another 9/11 has seen actions that caused destruction, public commotion and tragic loss of lives.

This year’s disturbances which began in Egypt and Libya took the form of violent demonstrations directed at American diplomatic staff and institutions. The demonstrations have spread across a wide swath of countries – at least a dozen according to some reports – in Africa and Asia. The continuing murderous mayhem was a reaction to a video, Innocence of Muslims, reportedly made in the US by independent film-makers. Death of a Friend The first deaths of Sept. 11, 2012 occurred at the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya. He was recognised as a friend who had worked hard to save that city and people when they were threatened with destruction “like rats” by Gaddafi.

Baffling Silence Many Deceptions Disgusting and Reprehensible Arab Awakening. U.S. Authorities Question Man Allegedly Behind Anti-Islam Film. Posted September 15th, 2012 at 9:40 am (UTC-4) U.S. federal probation officers have briefly questioned Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the man allegedly behind the controversial film that sparked violent protests in the Muslim world. On Saturday, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman said Nakoula took part in a voluntary interview for possible probation violations stemming from a 2010 bank fraud conviction.

“He was never in handcuffs. He was never arrested, never detained, never in custody.” Authorities say the terms of his probation include a five year ban on using computers or the Internet, without approval from a probation officer. The film, titled , sparked protests in regions including the Middle East, Africa and Asia because it mocked the Prophet Muhammad. In an earlier interview with U.S. Radio Sawa says the man refused to confirm his identity, but that a source who provided the contact information identified him as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. U.S. ex-con identified as man behind anti-Islam movie ‘Innocence of Muslims’ Zoom WASHINGTON—Federal authorities identified a Southern California man who is on federal probation for financial crimes as the key figure behind an anti-Muslim film that has spawned mob violence against American embassies across the Mideast, a U.S. law enforcement official said Thursday. There was no sign of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, at his family’s home Thursday in Cerritos, outside Los Angeles, as details slowly began to emerge about his checkered past, his connections among Southern California’s right-wing Christian organizations and his central role in the production of the film.

Excerpts from the movie, which the filmmaker said was called “Innocence of Muslims,” enraged Islamic protesters over its portrayal of the prophet Muhammad. U.S. Much about the film remains a mystery, including who financed it. Questions remained about whether Nakoula’s filmmaking and Internet distribution activities might have violated his federal probation and send him back to prison. ‘Innocence of Muslims’: A Who’s Who of Those Involved with the Film. UPDATED: Friday, Sept. 14, 2 p.m. An Internet clip of an amateurish, virulently anti-Muslim film called Innocence of Muslims is being identified as one of the flash points behind the anti-U.S. demonstrations in the Middle East that led to the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others in Benghazi, Libya, earlier this week.

As journalists work to uncover more details about the makers of the film, here’s what we know about the cast of characters so far: (MORE: Anti-Muhammad Film at Heart of Violence) Sam Bacile In July, a person working under this pseudonym posted a 14-minute trailer for Innocence of Muslims on YouTube. “Islam is a cancer,” he repeated to both publications. Public-records searches by TIME and others have yielded nothing tangible about a Sam Bacile in California, leading many to conclude that the name is a pseudonym. The film allegedly calls the holy Muslim Prophet Muhammad a fraud and shows him engaged in sex acts.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula Cindy Lee Garcia Alan Roberts. Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, Sam Bacile? filmmaker linked to anti-Islam video interviewed by feds. LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Federal officials have interviewed a California man believed to be the maker of an anti-Islam film that ignited a firestorm in the Muslim world, authorities said Saturday. The questioning came a day after federal officials said they were reviewing the probation of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who was convicted of bank fraud in 2009 and placed on supervised probation for five years. Federal officials consider Nakoula to be the filmmaker behind the anti-Islam "Innocence of Muslims. " Steve Whitmore, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, told CNN that Nakoula had left the local sheriff's station after the federal officials were done interviewing him.

"He is gone and he is free," he said of Nakoula, who was bundled up in a coat, hat and white scarf as he was escorted from the premises by a sheriff's deputy. Whitmore earlier dismissed reports that Nakoula had been arrested, saying he was never in handcuffs and had left his house willingly to be interviewed. Sam Bacile Mystery: All We Know Is That His Film Exists. After YouTube clips of his amateurish, green-screen-heavy film "The Innocence of Muslims" or "Muslim Innocence" were translated into Arabic and led to riots in Egypt and Libya this week, Sam Bacile has become the most famous independent filmmaker in the world, despite the fact that nothing is known about his past, his roots or how he actually funded his project.

Bacile had no internet presence and was a member of no social media networks prior to this incident. There are no early casting calls or production notices for the film. Nor does the film have a page on IMDB, the film database. No actors or crew members have been named or identified, and only a couple of the film's apparent backers -- fringe figures like pastor Terry Jones, Morris Sadek of the Coptic Church and Steve Klein, a "consultant" on the film who self-released an anti-Islamic book in 2010 -- have come forward to reveal themselves.

What we know about Bacile and his film comes solely from his own mouth. Share + From the AP: Who is Sam Bacile? LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California-based filmmaker went into hiding after a YouTube trailer of his movie attacking Islam’s prophet Muhammad sparked angry assaults by ultra-conservative Muslims on U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya. The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three American members of his staff were killed. Speaking by phone Tuesday from an undisclosed location, writer and director Sam Bacile remained defiant, saying Islam is a cancer and that the 56-year-old intended his film to be a provocative political statement condemning the religion. Protesters angered over Bacile’s film opened fire on and burned down the U.S. consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.

Libyan officials said Wednesday that Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed Tuesday night when he and a group of embassy employees went to the consulate to try to evacuate staff as the building came under attack by a mob firing machine guns and rocket propelled grenades. “This is a political movie,” Bacile told the AP. Anti-U.S. fury widens in Muslim world as protests rage in many countries. On Friday, it was the freedom to target American-linked buildings that most defined the day, as many governments appeared to be taken by surprise at the strength of the protests. Not even KFC and Hardee’s were safe, with franchises in Tripoli, Lebanon, torched by protesters as security forces opened fire on them, killing at least one person. It was impossible to know how many of the thousands of demonstrators who filled streets outside U.S. outposts were motivated by reports about the video — which was made under mysterious circumstances, apparently by individuals in California — and how many were venting anger at the United States for other reasons.

A short clip has been available on the Internet for weeks but apparently did not generate much attention until it was subtitled in Arabic and sent to Egyptian journalists. Embassies are targeted In Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, buses full of protesters stormed the German Embassy and set it ablaze, then headed for the U.S.
