Sakacon: DIY Ribbon Lei. Sak's brother will soon be graduating (again).

Sakacon: DIY Ribbon Lei

This time for his Masters! So I'm thinking - time for me to act like a respectable member of this Hawaiian family. I will make my brother-in-law a lei for his graduation! I bought some yellow ribbon, and since Michael's did not have the maroon-red color that makes up USC's colors, so solid yellow it would have to be. Sak and I had bought ribbon lei craft books on a past trip to Hawaii, but since my mom has them, I just had to figure it out on my own. I started by adding a small bead to the end of a long piece of thread, to serve as an anchor. Then I weaved the ribbon back and forth on my needle, creating loops. But the loops weren't consistent in size at all, and looked lame. So to adjust my method and get even loops, I pulled the ribbon out the length of the needle before poking it through. Three spools of ribbon later, I'm not done. And after digging around my scraps, I even found a small bit of maroon ribbon to finish it off.

Adventures of an almost 40 year old intern...: d.i.why not? fab pink geometric painted rug! I'm really excited to share my latest diy project with you!

adventures of an almost 40 year old intern...: d.i.why not? fab pink geometric painted rug!

It started with the fab white chairs in the above photo... i have been dying for eames chairs like these for ages but wasn't willing or able to pay the premium price for them (that nasty intern budget always rears its ugly head...)... then i found this awesome place online called advanced interior designs that sells inexpensive chairs that look exactly like the official dwr reproductions i had been pining for!

And the bonus was that they have a warehouse in la that i could just drive to and pick them up! In my eyes there is no difference in quality in person... just price tag! Faux Bois on Pinterest. Cut-in-half D.I.Y - Double the trouble, twice the fun! Posted by ScrapHacker.com on tisdag, september 18, 2012 · 3 Comments I gotta tell y’all, the D.I.Y blogosphere is indeed where the magic happens!

Cut-in-half D.I.Y - Double the trouble, twice the fun!

The round-up of ideas in this post aims to prove my case by gathering of bunch of projects that I refer to as 2-in-1 magic makeovers. The featured projects shows how to make the most out of less (with a little help from a circular saw!). With a little luck, this boost of creative split vision might make ignite a lil’ spark of inspiration and make you think twice about tossing that odd old table in the attic/basement/garage. The projects may be double the trouble but they’re most definitely twice the fun, Enjoy! D.I.Y Design by the clever & crafty Sarah M Dorsey!

Cutting with a handsaw

A handsaw is small and lightweight, so it’s easy to pack and carry. A handsaw also is a lot quieter than a circular saw and makes less of a mess. When you have only a few boards to cut, reaching for a handsaw is often faster than taking the time to run an extension cord and set up a power saw.
