However, as uncovered by a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Texas has emerged as an unexpected leader in solar power, with $1 billion now being invested in solar energy infrastructure with an aim to produce up to 12,500 megawatts of solar electricity by 2029. To mark this important moment in US energy production, the New Jersey Institute of Technology has produced this infographic revealing the benefits (and drawbacks) of solar energy for the average American consumer, including everything from the history of solar energy to incentives available for solar systems nationwide.

Forty-six floors above the streets of Manhattan, the top view from the Atelier—a luxury development—has everything you'd expect given its midtown location.

From the roof, you can easily pick out the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and peer down at the deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. But there's one sight that might come as a bit of a surprise: Black solar panels sitting on the southwest corner of the building's roof. Dan Neiditch, president of River 2 River Realty which operates the Atelier, had the panels installed in 2011. He says the system generates about 5 percent of the building's energy, subsequently cutting utility costs by roughly $40,000 a year.

The Atelier isn't the only New York City location experimenting with alternative energy. The proposed Lowline Project, which will convert the abandoned Williamsburg Bridge Trolley Terminal into an underground park, will use solar energy to create "remote skylights" that will light up the space. We'll be tuning in throughout the morning -- but here are a few of today's announcements, along with the firm's guidance. (And here's the presentation.) SunPower will be tripling its capacity over the next five years CEO Tom Werner just announced that SunPower intends to triple its upstream solar manufacturing capacity over the next five years.

This capacity expansion includes: The 350-megawatt Fab 4 solar cell factory that is on track to produce up to 100 megawatts next year, according to the CEO.800 megawatts of new planned solar cell and module manufacturing capacity for Fab 5More than 1 gigawatt of new planned low-concentration PV capacity (C7 tracker) Werner reminisced about building SunPower's first fab in an old NEC hard disk drive manufacturing facility in the Philippines that "had to be torn apart" a decade ago. Financial guidance for 2014 and 2015 SunPower just acquired microinverter firm SolarBridge. Solar Panels Build Your Own Solar Panel From Kits. “We understand that it’s complicated,” Vance Crocker, Black Hills Power’s vice president of operations, told the Rapid City Journal. Crocker did not rule out proposing the rate change again in the future, saying the company still thinks it’s fair. According to the Rapid City Journal, Black Hills Power argued that the proposal was necessary because company executives think independent power producers are not paying for their added use of the electrical grid.

Earlier this month Black Hills Power’s Jim Keck said the company is also concerned about covering their costs. Göeltz Paul - "4 JULY PROUD OF WHAT ??#PSYCOPATHS #OBAMA...
