The Food in my Beard

http://www.thefoodinmybeard.com/ One of my roommates used to live in Toronto, and after going to the movies here in Boston she was complaining that they didn't have salt and vinegar powder to sprinkle on the popcorn that is apparently ubiquitous up there. Immediately my brain started spinning and next thing you know I was looking up everything about vinegar powder. The varieties available, where you can buy it, and of course how to make it. I sort of regret becoming so obsessed with the idea, because there wasn't exactly a specific guide or recipe out there. I tried a few things I saw that were similar to what I wanted, and after lots of trial and error I finally came up with a powder made from mostly vinegar.

http://www.foodchannel.com/ When a recipe calls for “oil,” you can use any vegetable oil—corn, soy, canola, etc. Specialty oils, such as safflower, are more expensive, so reserve them for dishes that specifically call for them. Olive oil can be used most of the time, but is not recommended for most baking.

Garlic Knots – For Superior Garlic Breath « FoodMayhem

When I was in High School, I thought garlic knots were the best things on earth. I guess I still kind of think that, but often I’m disappointed by the garlic knots I buy. I’m not sure if the quality of garlic knots has gone down in NYC or if I’ve become harder to please.

Toast the sesame seeds in a frying pan for about 7 minutes, until golden, then grind coarsely . Toast the oats in a 300 degree oven in a 10 inch by 15 inch baking pan for 25 minutes, stirring to prevent scorching. The thing I love about piping peeps is, every one ends up with a different attitude. Some are elegant and swan-like, some aloof, some have deep, deep self-esteem issues. It’s my piping inconsistency that does it, but what I lack in piping skill I make up for in the diverse cast of characters I create.
