My Personal Perspective I personally do not own a SawStop, nor am I affiliated with SawStop in any way.

I still remember vividly a close call when I was about 16. SawStop Table Saw Overview In Closing. FAB LAB UAI | Design Lab UAI. Internship at Renzo Piano Building Workshop. From September 2011 I was chosen to take part in an exclusive 6 months Internship program offered by Fondazione Renzo Piano. As stated on website of foundation “The basic principle is quite simple: it’s “learning by doing”, and the reference model is that of an updated version of the Renaissance “workshop””.

For half a year I was a part of the design team working on the project of Centro Botín de Arte y Cultura in Santander, Spain, which is to be opened in June 2014. The project itself changed immensely in those 6 months. The amount of work our team did was just impressive. Most of the time, I’ve been working with models. The office itself is very nice place. Very important part of it is a model making workshop accessible to everyone from the office to work there on their models.

Worth mentioning is the friendly, creative and idea-sharing mood in the office. Part of the experience was life in Italy. I also learned a lot about the people and even more about myself. How Renzo Piano Building Workshop Creates Architectural Models With 3D Printing - FacFox Docs. The Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) was established in 1981 by Renzo Piano with offices in Genoa, Italy, and Paris, France.

RPBW is led by 9 partners, including founder and Pritzker Prize laureate, architect Renzo Piano. The practice permanently employs about 110 architects together with a further 30 support staff including 3D visualization artists, model makers, archivers, administrative, and secretarial staff. RPBW has a wide experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams on building projects in France, Italy, and abroad. They have successfully completed over 140 projects around the world. As architects, the teams are involved in the projects from start to finish.

They usually provide full architectural design services and consultancy services during the construction phase. The emphasis at RPBW is on “design to build”, to ensure from the start that every detail works and will represent the final building right down to the tiniest detail. How Scale Models Are Made To top Mr. ¿Qué es la Cuarta Revolución Industrial?

Why Cultivating Your Innovation Ecosystem Is Worth the Work. Since Paul Bloom and Gregory Dees first urged social entrepreneurs to cultivate their ecosystem a decade ago, “ecosystem” frameworks for innovation and entrepreneurship are finally moving into mainstream economic development practice. These frameworks use the metaphor of a biological ecosystem to refer to the complex, dynamic environments in which innovators operate—environments characterized by an array of interacting organizations, individuals (collectively referred to as “actors”), elements, relationships, and conditions that either enable or impede innovation. A growing number of educators, practitioners, and donors are recognizing the importance of these environments and focusing on ecosystem-strengthening initiatives (such as this state-level initiative by Harvard and this regional one by MIT REAP), as well as efforts to map innovation ecosystems at the city level (like these maps of Boulder and Sacramento) and beyond.

Functionally distinct from classrooms, libraries and student unions, academic incubators establish new forums for idea exchange on campus. Designed to spark strategic partnerships between academia and industry, incubators connect students to startups, investors and other collaborators they might not otherwise encounter. As such, academic incubators provide a community, resources and the physical environments essential to fostering entrepreneurial exploration. Depending on stated purpose and mission, incubators may offer: co-working or maker spaces, conference rooms, labs, cafes, concierge services and mentoring staff. Universities are assessing how best to prepare students for meaningful and rewarding careers. Today’s university students want more than academic degrees; they aim to launch businesses, develop new products and start social movements.

Try this Google Doc version of Understanding Innovation Ecosystems: A Framework for Joint Analysis and Action Introduction Place-based innovation ecosystems play a crucial role in driving local and regional economic development. This role has been documented and understood for over 40 years in industrialized economies but is only starting to be appreciated in the context of emerging and developing economies. Whether at the municipal level, in places such as Medellín, Colombia and Guadalajara, México, or the national level in Rwanda, South Africa, or India, we see governments, multi-laterals, donors, and civil society actors embarking on initiatives to strengthen local innovation ecosystems.

Within the past year, MIT D-Lab has been invited to play a role in some of these ecosystem-strengthening efforts. Cómo potenciar el ecosistema innovador de tu ciudad desde un espacio maker. Most vacuums are screaming banshees. A simple box stops the madness by Thomas R. Schrunk Sanding used to give me the choice of two evils: I could use the sander’s onboard dust bag and let my lungs be the final filter, or I could attach a shop vacuum and replace dust pollution with noise pollution. The vacuum can be switched on and off from outside the box, it will work with tool-activated vacuums, and I can now sand at will without creating either air or noise pollution. Eben Bayer and Gavin McIntyre, the founders of Ecovative Design, found inspiration while observing mushrooms growing on wood chips and how the mycelium – the ‘roots’ of the mushrooms – bonded the wood chips together. Mycelium, a fungal network of threadlike cells, then acts like a “natural, self-assembling glue”. This enabled the team to formulate a new method to produce materials able to replace various types of products, including petroleum-based expanded plastics and particle board made using carcinogenic formaldehyde. The raw material used is agricultural feedstock. They use parts of plants that cannot be used for food or feed, therefore with low economic value. These are cleaned and inoculated with mushroom tissue. The mycelium grows in 5-7 days without needing any light or water, digesting the agricultural by-product and binding into the shape needed.

This minimal processing reduces the cost of the product and thus enables its economic viability. Open Source Ecology - Wikipedia. News & Updates — MIT Media Lab. Vigyan Ashram. Marcin Jakubowski: Open-sourced blueprints for civilization.
