How to scan negative film - The Image Quality Professor's Blog

This week the Professor shows you how to easily scan these using your camera and Capture One Pro 8. If you ever need to scan negative film, you should consider using your camera and Capture One Pro 8 to do the job. You only need a tripod, a light box, a macro lens and optimally, a camera that can shoot tethered directly into to Capture One Pro 8. With the Levels tool in Capture One Pro 8 you can easily invert the image and optimize the dynamic range to achieve a perfect reproduction. Negative film converted to a positive image in Capture One Pro 8 1. When I want to reproduce film I mount my camera on a tripod pointing straight down on my small light box. 2. When shooting at macro magnifications the depth of field is quite small and I need to make sure that the camera is 100% perpendicular to the surface of the light box. 3.

Setting The Mood With Low Key Lighting. This image was made using a flash on camera, bounced into an uncoated muslin reflector. The uncoated muslin warms the light up about 400 degrees Kelvin. The reflector was positioned above and to the left of the camera, with the flash aimed into it. EOS-1D Mark IV, EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro. ISO 100, 1/250, f/4. This diagram shows the lighting for the image above. Last week I wrote about high key portrait lighting and how it creates a very upbeat feel in images lit that way.

Light reveals your subject, and shadows define your subject. Indoors, the simplest way to achieve low key lighting is to use a speedlite on camera, bounced off a wall, or into a reflector angled to catch your subject in the face.

Multi-Pass Sharpening Techniques Using Sharpener Pro 3.0 with Dan Hughes. A Few Things To Know About This Post Ryan Brenizer did not initially call this technique “The Brenizer Method”, that’s what many other people have called it and it stuck.

In many of his earlier posts, he refers to this technique as panoramic stitching. When I wrote that “Ryan Brenizer invented” this technique, I now realize that invent was the wrong word to use. He no more invented this technique than Columbus discovered America. Rather I should have said he developed another use of panoramic stitching.Ryan’s way of doing the panoramic stitching is slightly different than how I document it below. This was never meant to be, in any shape or form, the official way to do the Brenizer Method. See the video from B&H Photo Video with Ryan Brenizer explaining the panoramic stitching technique, otherwise known as the Brenizer Method:

On my recent workshop in Iceland (July, 2003) I had a fascinating chat with Thomas Knoll about signal to noise ratios in digital photography. You may recognize Thomas' name — he is the original author of Adobe Photoshop, and also the author of Camera RAW. (A discussion with Thomas is featured in The Luminous Landscape Video Journal, Issue #6, from the Fall of 2002 when I was reviewing a pre-production Canon EOS-1Ds).

But I digress. We spent a lot of time chatting about digital topics during our 3,000 km drive around Iceland, and Thomas elaborated on one that had not occurred to me before, though once I started thinking about it makes perfect sense.
