DESIGNING FROM THE ‘INSIDE-OUT’ Design for such a complex and dynamic situation as contemporary learning and teaching requires that all physical elements: built space, furnishings and loose items, be considered together to create a functionally and visually harmonious environment.

DESIGNING FROM THE ‘INSIDE-OUT’

The new environment provides a diverse rather than a totally flexible environment and an inseparable relationship has been created between pedagogy and design. Students and staff welcome the conviviality and purposefulness of their Unit and treat it with care and respect. This attitude is possibly a response to the respect given to their involvement throughout the design process. The project has explored many questions but it has also raised many more. There is a crucial need for further development and evaluation. Schools are one of the most interesting and challenging areas for design today. Creating a new school – or even a modest refurbishment such as this, is a creative project involving many choices. Innovation Labs and Makerspaces.

Inquiry-based Learning: Explanation. What is inquiry-based learning?

Inquiry-based Learning: Explanation

An old adage states: "Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand. " The last part of this statement is the essence of inquiry-based learning, says our workshop author Joe Exline 1. Inquiry implies involvement that leads to understanding. Furthermore, involvement in learning implies possessing skills and attitudes that permit you to seek resolutions to questions and issues while you construct new knowledge. "Inquiry" is defined as "a seeking for truth, information, or knowledge -- seeking information by questioning. " A Context for Inquiry Unfortunately, our traditional educational system has worked in a way that discourages the natural process of inquiry. Some of the discouragement of our natural inquiry process may come from a lack of understanding about the deeper nature of inquiry-based learning.

Importance of Inquiry Memorizing facts and information is not the most important skill in today's world.

Learning Commons - Vega Elementary

Today’s Learning Commons is designed to serve all members of the Vega community and is very different than the library you or I may have experienced in our schooldays. Students still visit the Learning Commons to gather reading and research materials, however, the environment and way our students use the library has changed in many ways. This orientation will introduce you to the philosophy behind these changes and also show how daily instruction can be supported by the Learning Commons. Learning Commons HoursMonday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Wednesday 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. if there is a staff meeting scheduled in the library. **Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian after 3:00 p.m. Learning Commons - John Weldon Elementary.
